So I looked to find out whether Black Bears make good pets and found this:

Question:

<div class="qa-container"><h1 class="subject">Do black bears make for good pets?</h1><div class="content">First of all are they legal to own?

If they are, can I get them as a cub so it can be used to my family?

My son wants a bear badly.</div><ul class="meta">

Trouble with keeping up with live mascot was the reason giving for not picking.....a horse.

So they went with at bear instead. LOL

As I've said many times...a friend of mine who rubs elbows with Rebel cigar boys told me a couple years ago they were getting a bear for a mascot. It was a bear all along.

But to answer your question...not that my opinion matters, but its all I got in this instance...no way they get a real bear.

Kinda buzzed right now, but I do know a bit about this. There is a lot of cost and red tape involved in a University keeping live animals. The cost of maintaining facilities and paying someone qualified to run them can grow quickly. IACUC rules are quite strict, and keeping those type animals requires a pretty qualified person. MSU used to have a facility with a number of bobcats, foxes, raccoons, a number of deer, a cougar (deceased by natural causes), and a bear. I would imagine that having a nice vet school on campus helped us out a great deal, but recent budget cuts have forced us to euthanize most all of these animals. From what I know, only the deer and the bear remain. Considering we have a great wildlife science program, the fact that we had to cut all this speaks to how much trouble keeping these type animals can be. Drunk rambling, but keeping a horse would be much cheaper and easier since it is a domesticated animal.

Why can't Mississippi have a bear?<div>
</div><div>I'm sure if they wanted one, it could be done. It's just not very practical.

kinda made keeping abear as a pet highlyrisky....at least in his case...

euthanize?? Like Mississippi's "athletics" programs? Well....I guess that is not fair...after all their athletics programs are still on life support...

a lovable, little black bear doesn't do their fanbase justice - cause everybody knows all of the fat, arrogant, TSUN Mother<17>ers who troll this board neither likable, little or black (sarcasm).
