Thank goodness. I wonder if that was part of our offense? Did we draw that up?

And I definitely thought it was a travel. I thought it was pretty blatant. Rece Davis I believe was doing the game, and he made a comment that it was close to a travel or something like that. He was being nice. Just some good ole SEC officiating. They're awful.

My guess is they realized they should've called a foul, so they screwed it up and let the travel go. Then they realized they were wrong to let the travel go, so they gave UT the ball after the missed FT went out of bounds when it looked like UT touched it last.

That was the only bit of your game I saw, and I thought the whole sequence was pretty awful. Just seeing in the thread that someone said it nicked the backboard. I didn't see that, but it was an odd looking sequence either way.

Not in the NBA- that is called a travel.

In the NCAA, yes,
provided it is a bonefide shot attempt, in the opinion of the official.
Rule 9, paragraph 6 of the NCAA Rule Book indicates that any shot
attempt constitutes a loose ball and hence, anyone can recover it.<div style="overflow: hidden; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-align: left; text-decoration: none; border: medium none;">

That is totally incorrect. If the shot was not blocked and didn't hit the backboard then it should have been a travel. It is not the job of an official to determine the intent of the shooter.

It's in the discretion of the ref as to whether it is a "legitimate shot attempt", as opposed to a pass to yourself.

Don't see it often, but the refs surprisingly actually got that one right. And I didn't think it was close to nicking the backboard.

The refs determine the intent of the shooter the whole game. If they would have called a foul on that play then they would have to determine whether or not bost was shooting the ball or passing

its not travelling except in the NBA. Lawdawg agrees and so does pretty much any discussion ever held on the world wide web. Alta Vista it and see for yourself.

I never knew that, and honestly I don't think I've ever seen an instance to where it would need to be called that way like last night.

<div style="text-align: left;">I learned this one the hard way. I have done several years of officiating. I called it in a travel during a game. The coach called me over and told me it was a travel. Thinking I was right, I 'educated' him on the rule. He had one request at the end of the conversation, he asked me to bring him a copy of the rule for next weeks game. He was a good sport about it, so I looked it up to show him andfound I was wrong. I was a littleembarrassedwhen I went back to the coach and told him he was rightafter all.</div>
