How many think they could stand up there and knock down free throws under that kind of pressure?
I know I'd probably air ball one, especially if the lane was clear with zero time on the clock.
If I recall, we had two situations like that in the same game a couple years back. It was the SEC tourney opener against UGA. We win and we have a good shot at getting an NCAA bid especially with one more win. We lose, and we're NIT bound. We were down 3, and Warren got fouled shooting a 3 with only seconds left. He made all 3 shots to tie it, and UGA missed the shot at the buzzer, sending it to OT. The same thing happened in OT, except it was Huertas at the line shooting 3 with us down 3, and he hit all 3 of them to tie it, only this time UGA hit the game winner at the buzzer.
I think I'd probably crack under that type of pressure.
It reminds me of Darius Washington for Memphis a few years back. They were down 2 in the CUSA final to Louisville, needing a win for an NCAA bid. A loss meant the NIT. Washington got fouled shooting a 3 with no time on the clock. Hit 2 and he forces OT. Hit all 3 and they win. He hit the first, clanked the second, and once he clanked the second you knew there was no chance he'd hit the third. He missed the third under the pressure, and they lost by one.
ETA: Anyone ever been in that type of situation shooting free throws to tie or win? Even if it's just church league, high school, youth leagues, whatever?
