So we pay a search firm to come up with the best candidate and it turns out to be KP. It was rumored that he was the number one choice from the beginning so it sounds like we wasted a lot of money and time. This reminds me of the Tyra hiring when he was appointed to the the job and to make it look like he was the best candidate they hire a search firm to legitimize his appointment. Which means the people in charge at the University the President, AD and BOT really suck and shouldn’t be where they are.

On a side note the Crap Journal headline describes him as the black coach instead of the former Louisville alum, why do they have to create decisiveness?

Its not decisive. He's the first Mens Black Head Coach of UofL's Mens Basketball team.

If a Latino or a Man of Asian descent is hired in the same capacity, the headline would be similar.

If this helps - it was said on 93.9 this morning that the search firm is not subject to any freedom of information act requests. SO, the search firm was able to "kick the tires" on the Wrights, Musselmans, Drews, etc quietly without any interaction with Louisville leadership, which prevents leaks. Form there, they could present to Heird etc saying "okay, these are the realistic candidates" without going into detail on who they talked to that said no or lost interest after that initial contact. After the fact, any freedom of information act requests would not reveal any of what transpired - which keeps the candidates out of hot water with their current AD as they ramp up for March.

if true, that makes complete sense to me.

I just think they don’t need to label him as a black head coach. Since we have far more black athletes on the football and basketball team should we label every white athletes that we recruit. We just recruited a white point guard, a white quarterback or a white assistant coach. I do think it creates divisiveness why not say Louisville has a new head coach and he is a former player? I also think the plan was always hire KP and they waisted a lot of money putting up a smoke screen.

They did the same thing when they hired Tyra. Like some of the other posters on here who were against the hiring of KP as a Louisville fan I hope he is very successful and I will be cheering for him. I hope his recruiting abilities are as good as they say.

Did you know that Wade Houston was the first African American that received a basketball scholarship to UofL? He is a man that is still very much alive. It wasn’t that long ago that African Americans were being denied opportunities such as athletic scholarships. It is historically significant that UofL is hiring a coach who is an African American. It wasn’t very long ago when that opportunity wasn’t there regardless of qualifications.

Keep in mind back in the late 70’s and early 80’s people referred to Louisville as the black birds. They were constantly reminded they were black and didn’t belong. It is ok to celebrate a black head coach. As matter of fact it is pretty awesome story.

I guess going by your argument then whites and blacks should push for more Latino coaches. I mean there are now more Latinos in the U.S. then there are African Americans. I don’t see them being represented in the coaching communities, who do we blame for that?
