Considering 7 on the 25 roster were farm products, (Ped, Paps, Youk, Ellsbury, masterson, lowerie, lester)
signed to rookie contracts they can do that and still not have to jump the Luxury tax threshold.
Ped will get a good sized bump in contract for the next year, and will be elgible for arbitration the year after I believe if the sox dont buyout those years with a multi-year contract which is possible... but FYI, the Red Sox have never had to go fully through arbitration while Theo has been the GM, always works things out.
The money will final start flowing for Paps this season, he convinced the sox to bump him to 775k this season and will now is arbtrition elgible. But not FA elgible
Youk had a 3mil one year contract this year, but the sox still hold his rights, and after this season the 3mil will grow even larger.
and Ellsbury will be getting around the league min for several more years..this year was his first complete year up in the bigs, and has a month or so of service time from last year. Long ways from arbtration elgible to even force the sox to bump his pay or do a multi-year deal.
