Ways to improve the Hump...

A la the Dudy Noble thread, how could we improve the hump? Inside the arena, I think it is close to perfect. There is really nothing you can do.

One thing I think needs to be done is to completely redo the concourse.

I think you're right for the most part i would say the arena is pretty much set. The only thing i would like to see is the student section run all the way to the court and those $12000 floorside seats rearranged. The biggest thing i think the concourse needs is to be at least twice as wide, update pretty much everything as far as new flooring, paint, etc. and have a little more memorabilia

Lines at the concession stand choke off the flow of people.... but that could probably be solved by roping off some lines at right angles.

Either way, the concourse is dated and could use a fresh coat of paint at the very least.

1. Expand out onto the grassy area on the west (?) side of the coliseum and create a really nice main entrance similar to what they've done in the Always in the Black Academic Center.

2. Put nicer tvs in easier to view places near concessions.

3. Completely re-do the bathrooms and even add one if you can in suggestion no. 1. Also, let everyone know the house rule is that you don't stand in a single line an wait for the next person to finish. You just have to pick a urinal and hope that line moves quickest. Generally just go to the line with fewer old men.

4. Whatever is going on with the glass displays, start over and do it in a fashion that doesn't look like some frat guys at Brown or any other college hanging an MC Escher poster they got at the Union poster sale.

At one time there was talk of taking out all the upper seats on the end by DNF and making it a bank of suites. It would look similar to Phillips arena. Doubt this ever happens but GB does like to generate high dollar seats and they would sell.

Byrne or someone in the athletic dept was to move the concession stands and maybe the bathrooms to the outside of the concourse (with some type of add on) and make numerous suites where they used to be.

Ricks Rowdies are sad....10 people jumping up and down is just not intmidating to opponents...as opposed to 100 + at other schools

..Can the people seated directly left of the suites even see the court?... or is it another Polk-Dement stadium fiasco where, if you sit in the top rows of the bleachers you can't see home plate because of the grandstand?

While we are renovating the concourse, adding concessions, and all the other things that have been suggested, can we somehow get them to stop using the "I had no idea they were still in circulation" Fitty Cent Pieces as change in concessions???

Reconstruct the entire upper section of the building. Basically tear down the entire building except what is below ground. Then rebuild luxury suites all the way around and rebuild the upper deck seats above. Obviously, this would include a new concourse, bathrooms, concessions, and facade on the outer portion that looks much more modern. </p>

For example, A big explosion followed by flames, along with the sound and the whole place is flickering like you just got blown to hell... it's like a good home theater experience. Now I don't think we need the flame thing, because about half of our fans would have a heart attack and kick the bucket, but you can still do some really cool stuff. I would also upgrade the 'tron with some of Capturions HD screens.

At the rate we have been adding HD displays (fb and baseball now) I cannot imagine there not being any in the hump for long

I want to get the real banners back on the ends instead of the vinyl thing we have around the scoreboard now.

Pyro is not allowed in the hump. There was a guy there called, Duffy, I think that is in charge of the hump. He used to have large part of the stage mounted on his wall where an 80s rock band had done pyro and blown up the stage. Since then, no pyro in the hump.

it would be wonderful if the student section could be expanded/traded off with the alumni to expand the lower level gray seats available to students
but the problem becomes that if the students are standing in the lower seats, then any alumni behind will not be able to see in the first
couple rows.

I like the way it is. It's loud, it's small but big enough for us, and sells out every season.

However there are a few things we can do to make the stadium more intimidating and look better. Im more concerned about how the crowd looks on TV and how intimidating we are more than whether the alumni get what they want.

1. PUT THE !+@%%%* STUDENTS BEHIND THE GOAL. We could do away with one of two sections on the lower part (right in front of where Jack sits) and put them behind the goal. It would actually be hard to shoot free throws and we wouldnt look like weak %%*@% on TV.

2. Stop letting businesses buy up bulk seats on the lower level. If they want to buy more than 5, put them up top. We have to start filling the bottom part up.

3. Bring back the hanging banners. Like most normal college basketball programs do

4. Tell dumbasses who don't wear maroon to start. ie. Ricks Rowdies. Our colors are maroon and white but maroon is what you are supposed to wear. White just sucks.

5. Use Mississippi State cheese on the nachos. And give the attendant a bucket of quarters.
