We all had our concerns when Torbush was hired.

But as State fans, we gave it the "ol wait and see" approach. Now we see why he's been fired at 2 of his last 3 jobs. He was fired after 3 years at Texas A&M. In his third season there, they finished last in the Big XII in total defense and 109th in the nation. They gave up over 410 yards a game and 31 pts. Now we'll just have to give it the ol wait and see to the end of the year to find out who's the next lucky guy to come in here and run this D. IMO the next D-Cord should be someone who runs the equivalent of the spread on D. What we need is a fast, attacking style D that gives multiple looks. Last night, we saw the equivalent of a Croom-led offense on D. No aggression, no creativity, no adjustments, no speed and no blitzing.

THis is surprising, because the way it's run today is similar to the old Wishbone or Veer. Guys like Torbush were brought up going against pro-style offenses, defending against smashmouth football. Torbush did well at Alabama because everybody was running these offenses. He was a disaster at A&M because everybody in the Big 12 was running the Spread. I was hoping that he learned some lessons from those days, and had a few tricks up his sleeve. As it is, I'm just hoping the reason we got whipped is because Auburn had totally superior talent, and not because our DC was stuck in 1989.

Thank heavens we have a Ninja as an AD. Coach Torbush will show up missing fairly quickly.

The old thinking is gone.

& he is laying alot on the shoulders of the linebackers w/ only 3 down lineman.

In the second half, we ran a blitz from the outside, causing a hurried pass & it worked, pass was hurried out of bounds

I guess he is asking the "D" to read & react, & that won't cut it

you got to put pressure on offenses, & make them commit more blockers

Defense is bad weak

Mullen is exclusively offense. He doesn't have the luxury of being involved on the D side. He hired Torbush and handed the D to him out of necessity. Mullen can't afford to be patient with him.

Ask anyone in Chapel Hill, NC or College Station, TX what they think of Torbush and you'll get the same response 9 out of 10 time. I was critical of his hiring from day one but last night just confirmed my feelings about him as a DC. If we don't see a huge improvement next week against a very one dementional Vandy team, Mullen needs to appoint a new DC and send Torbush packing. I know we were out manned by Auburn but no way we should have given up 400 yards rushing. I don't understand the defensive scheme with a three man front at all. Malzahn just schooled his ***.
