I think most of us know that Coach Stoops was a very good DC at Fl. State, and had done a good job everywhere he had been. Since he had done a good job as a DC, why wasn't he offered a HC job much sooner? When a coach is in his mid to late 40's, and still not a Head Coach, there usually is a reason.
After reading what he and Eliot said about the players, I have lost a lot of respect for both of them. Coaches, these are your players, you recruited most of them, so why are you throwing them under the bus. All of the items you mentioned, are NOT on the players back, but on the coaches. I don't care for Petrino, but he is coaching his players up, and most of them were not rated any higher then ours. I don't hear him throwing his under the bus. If a recruit reads what you and Eliot are saying, do you think they would want to come here. I doubt it!
I hope you right the ship, Coach Stoops, but like a lot of other fans, I DOUBT IT! Maybe it's time for you and Eliot to move on.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

Although I don't know of any study that has ever been done, I would actually say that mid to late 40's is probably about normal for one's first head coaching job at a major school. It's probably common for younger coaches to become head coaches at smaller schools, but that's not necessarily higher in the pecking order than coordinator at a power school.

For example, Nick Saban had his first head coaching job around the age of 39, but it was at Toledo. His first major school head coaching job was when he was about 44. Petrino was about 42 (if you call UofL a major job back then). Jim McElwain, a solid coach, was 50 before he even got hired at Colorado State. Stoops' progression was normal.

I believe AZ had 3 losing seasons out of 4 with him as DC.

Then 2 good years at FSU.

Wasn't enough resume in the first place...

$12M. SMFH...
