We are one game behind what I projected...

before the Auburn series. I said we would take 5 out of 6 from Bama and Auburn and lose 2 out of 3 to Vandy. Now, how do you see us finishing up?

I see 3-3.

I'm with you. 3-3 is probably a good bet.

A lot of us said 17 wins would look really good in the SEC this year, and if we can go 4-2 these last two weekends we will get there. Obviously we squandered some opportunities against some really good teams early on, but I still think we can compete with every SEC team but Vandy in a 3 game series if we can get to that point where we are playing 3 game series.

The question here is, how do we want to get those 3 wins if we in fact go 3-3 against OM and SC. Do we want 2 wins against OM and 1 against SC? Do we want 2 wins against SC and 1 against OM? 2 wins on the road against a ranked OM team would look really good for our RPI, but winning that SC series might get us a regional host. Then, how does losing the OM series before SC play into us hosting if in fact we take 2 from SC? Just something to think about over the last two weekends.

I agree with 3-3.

I feel like we will lose 2 of 3 in Oxford and win 2 of 3 versus South Carolina. People talking about us going 5-1 in the next two series have lost their minds. We could have easily lost 2 of 3 vs Bama, but we fought hard and pulled them out. Wahl will be tough Friday night and it's a coin flip from there on out. If we lose 2 of 3 versus Ole Miss, it will be interesting to see how this team responds vs USC with a regional host on the line with possible additional work left in Hoover.

4-2. I don't think I made any specific predictions before the season, but overall, we're slightly ahead of where I thought we'd be. I thought we'd be about a #15 RPI team and a borderline regional host.

If you think RPI is the end all be all then we've already got a host spot locked up. From a practical standpoint, we need to beat South Carolina, if you are going to choose.

That's where the dilemma comes in.

2 wins on the road against OM will help the RPI due to the weight of road wins, but a series win against SC at home might propel us over them for a host spot potentially, or at least solidify our spot as a host. That series might would be more impressive than one against OM. 2 wins against SC would probably offset the RPI gain by winning two on the road to OM. I'm just not sure which one helps us the most.

I would lean toward beating SC twice at home helps more than beating OM twice on the road in terms of national perspective. But again, I'm really not that sure. I would prefer us to win both series and say screw the hypothetical situations I'm throwing out.

I think that 2 W's on the road will help RPI better than 2 at home.

If we're assuming a series win and a series loss in the remaining two series (3-3 total)...
Yes, two road wins would help our RPI. But two home losses a week later would cancel that out. Road wins are adjusted by as much as home losses (factor of 1.3).

2-1 vs UM & 1-2 vs USC would give an adjusted W-L of 3.3-3.3
1-2 vs UM & 2-1 vs USC would give an adjusted W-L of 2.7-2.7

The latter would drop our RPI by less. Therefore, with the given assumption, it would be slightly better to win the USC series. But the effect is so small it might not even make a difference in our RPI ranking.

The RPI benefit is negligible, but there are much more tangible benefits for beating South Carolina.

5-1 will be tough. But if we were able to do that, you're probably looking at a national seed.

DS, do you have a link to the thread where we all gave our expectations or predictions for this baseball season? I searched for it forever the other day but never found it.

Oh, and I think we finish 3-3 with a good shot at 4-2. The Bobby Wahl matchup will determine 3-3 or 4-2 in my opinion.
