We basically have a sanctioned program at this point

Square pegs and round holes, injuries left and right, a depleted roster thanks to a certain former head coach's inability to see the big picture -- I'm just thankful that we've been competitive in every game. Players are playing hard. Coaches should have your full support until the bad habits and attitudes instilled by the last staff have been fully excised from the program. Anyone who has a problem with that should head back to Youngstown...you're in the wrong state!

Eh, Paul Chryst and the Illinois interim coach didn't exactly inherit a lot of talent either. Look at their last 4 respective recruiting classes. Yet they've found a way to beat us in their first years. It's not like we're getting beat by great teams with established head coaches.

None of those players felt betrayed by the university. The coaching staff at those schools didn't walk into a hostile environment towards them like Riley did. One coaching change isn't equal to the next, Paul Christ and the Illinois guy didn't make wide scale sweeping changes in philosophies like Nebraska.

Some of you just make me laugh. The denial on this board runs deep. The fact remains that we hired a solidly average coach and what we're seeing on the field is the direct result of that.

I'd hardly call Bo Pelini a "solidly average coach." But you are correct that what we are seeing is a direct result of his ineptitude on the recruiting trail and in developing players. The "culture" and "process" he put in place here was about as bad as it gets.

Come on-read his post-he is referring to Riley. You are so obsessed with Bo, you assume that everything is about him. Why don't you follow YSU if you want to keep track of him-I'm more interested in how Riley is going to fix my team, the Huskers.

Wow, just wow,,, yes you guys have great facilities, but you are in Nebraska. Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State And Wisconsin all have fantastic facilities and deeper recruiting bases. Minnesota is putting $190 million into their sports complex, much of it for football. The SEC is in a huge arms race. Texas and Oklahoma is another story with all the oil money.

You will never achieve what you had in the 1970's, with a HS football feeder program throwing Veer players at you left and right.

Give your coach a chance, your team plays hard.

Funny! You are so obsessed with boogie man Pelini that you are blind to the fact that Riley is just a (below) average coach

I have no doubt that the "cupboard is kind of bare", but that doesn't mean it's empty. How people turn a blind eye to the sometimes ineptness of this coaching staff is perplexing to say the least. I think it is unlikely this staff will ever put together a W-L record higher than 9-3 based on observations of the last 6 games. They just aren't very smart football minds---no other way to say it. Not saying that any of us should abandon ship---to the contrary we should be very supportive of all through thick and thin. However, I have not seen anything to lead me to believe that what you're witnessing is some kind of inherited problem and will be remedied with MR's recruits. Improvement, sure, but not all of this falls on the backs of Bo's players.

You have to realize it is possible for both to be true... .we have issues in talent and coaching.
I agree but I think there is enough talent to win with good coaching. The talent can always be better but its not horrible.

I thought good coaching was to make players better and to put them in a position to succeed. So far all Mike Riley and his staff has done is put the players in losing situations

SE blew it with the hire he made. We've seen this movie before. The sequel sucks.

Nebraska has dug its own grave. A once innovating program doing the things necessary to win when things stubbornly weren't working turns into a program where we just stare at a field and say "hey the 1990s were pretty great, huh?"

C'mon, we are letting the game pass us by because we've stopped trying to win.

IMHO, The state of Nebraksa is too nice. And yet, the state is too stupid. The people running it are idiots. We have no innovation.. no bread and butter. Just some dumb people like myself giving opinions and dumber people in charge giving "its ok I like where we are headed."

I say how foolish and self-inflicting the latter is. "Hope" is nothing. Its nothing physical or can be controlled. This "hope" for the best is nothing but giving up and not doing anything to change it for the positive outcome. This "hope things will be better in the future" can go fudge itself.

But hey, GBR!!!! Give staff 3-4 years so they can get their recruits and can do whatever. Mike Reilly is nice. He won a Canada bowl. Nice guy. West coast. Oregon Ducks in same state. NFL. GBR.

.....

Heck, LSU now is more Nebraska than Nebraska wants to admit. Shame on you, Nebraska.
