We did not play well or have a very good game plan

but you have to give UW credit, they completely took us out of what we do best and we never really pushed them out of their plan to over play us on the perimiter and to beat the heck out of us down low. I told friends before the game I thought our best chance was to pack in a zone and try and make them beat us shooting from the outside which I still would have liked to have seen; but after watching them play I am not sure it would have mattered in the end. If UW continues to play as well as they did yesterday I think they will make a good run. They are solid in all facets of the game, not that flashy but they do everything pretty well and do it with an aggressive attitude. They got after us yesterday and unfortunately we did not respond very well.

Come on! You think playing a zone would have helped us? No way, they would have killed us anyway, the difference in the game was talent, they just had better talent.
Btw, the reason we couldn't get started on offense was Washington had the best defensive team I've seen on us all year.
We play them 3 times during the year and they beat us 3 times. Too much muscle inside and very quick on the outside.
Game planning had NO barring.

but I would have liked to have tried it. Yes, we were overmatched as you said but to beat teams that are better than you have to take away things they like to do. Washington loves to penetrate and dish and get to the free throw line. A packed in zone would most likely have stopped that but I was surprised at how well they shot it from out deep but honestly they didn't have to shoot it out there very often. I was really impressed with their defensive pressure which I did not think would be that good. Do you think they have what it takes to get to Detroit? I think that maybe they do.

They were just a bigger, stronger, more physical team that was also pretty athletic. And I really think my big concern going into the game hurt us badly. 5 games in 8 days plus a cross-country road trip caught up to us. We were a step slow all game long and consequently they came up with all the loose balls.

I have no idea how Florida beat them earlier in the season...but their players and gameplan were spot on against us. The reasons listed in this thread are why we lost...the refs (while they sucked) had nothing to do with our final fate.

They were rebounding like crazy and getting every loose ball. They were tenacious on D. We should have went to a more slashing type offense since they were playing so tough on the outside. We were settling for contested 3s from 4 feet behind the line. I thought we should have basically given them the 3, they aren't very good from the outside. I think we did better with JV, Kodi, and Osby in the game. We rebounded better and it put bigger bodies in the lane for D.

they did seem to get every loose ball. You know your rebounding should improve in a zone but again you are correct, it did not. Purdue played extremely hard yesterday I thought, so it should be a fun game to watch if we are able to see it. I'd give the edge to UW.

Refs were pretty much letting go any bumping type fouls. They didn't call them either way. That is the way UW was playing and it helped them tremendously. We should have adapted to it.

really would have killed us. by playing man, we were able to switch out on screens and we did a pretty good job overall of keeping their guards from getting free. if we play a zone, they pass it around the perimeter, then cut through a hole in the zone. the low man has to stop the ball, and then the pass is wide open. a zone wouldn't have been the answer, because unlike our team, they wouldn't have been content to sit back and jack up long 3s against a zone.

they outworked us yesterday. loose balls, rebounding, playing how they wanted to, and taking us out of what we wanted to do. early on, when they doubled varnado, it looked like it caught him totally by surprise. i wish we had flown to portland on monday.

A packed in 2-1-2 or 1-2-2 would have allowed them to shoot from the outside but if it was packed in tight they could not have sliced through it and we should have been able to dominate the boards. They probably would have shot us out of it but it "might" have gotten in their heads a little bit if we just backed off of them and said you gonna have to beat us with a different game today because we know we can't play your game. Just a different approach.

1. Being more agressive off the dribble. Once we started doing that, we got fouled or created an off rebounding opportunity. Instead, we just allowed them to get into us.

2. Taking Ravern out with 10 to go in the 1st half and never putting him back in.

They are better no doubt.

we were up 10-6 when he came in early. he promptly threw the ball to an unsuspecting augustus twice, was called for an offensive foul, and lost a dribble out of bounds. negative productivity.
