$2,000/yr + tickets isn't "nearly nothing" to me now. In the past the $250/yr + tickets was the best deal around but, blame the powers that be not the box holders themselves. Boxholder's been paying whatever's been asked for "the last 50 years".

Oh it’s certainly not the boxholder’s fault. I wish I could get premium football tickets for that cheap, but I can’t. I don’t know who in the boxholders has had naked pictures of decision makers to continue to undercharge by 3 times the amount they could get for those spots, but good on them I guess.

There are some mind boggling comments in this thread. If every SEC game averaged 62K at Davis Wade with $200 tickets on the street, I wonder what the sentiment would be regarding the south endzone.

Would we be telling people... quit your bitching and just buy a ticket? Or.. Just come watch us play LaMo if you really want to see a game?

No.. I figure the cry would be loud and clear... bulldoze the Seal Building and add some seats with the quickness.

As it stands... in this thread... it feels like there is an undercurrent of sentiment where a few people are saying "My daddy has been buying these seats since 1979 so 17 y'all if you want on board now. I was here first!"
There aren't these hordes of "GA average joe" fans in football who want to pick and choose the games they come to and also have a seat for cheap. The ratio is out of whack in baseball, the guaranteed demand is not there.

We even have a ticket exchange now. Still bitching.

Where were you in 2017 when they were asking for commitments?

I was unavailable to purchase tickets at that time. Are we going to just never have more season ticket options for people that didn’t have the money to buy them in 2017? You’re on here telling everyone to buy season tickets like that’s an option. It’s not. I’m happy for you that you’ve been able to for the past 100 years but not everyone has and it’s pretty obvious we could sell more tickets if the space was available.

We built the greatest stadium in the history of college baseball and you call it small minded.

That’s brilliant.

The things that I see missing are:
-actual seats for general admission, not berms or standing. There supposedly has been talk of that in RF to the side of the scoreboard
-additional rest rooms in the center field area
-the lines at the concession stands in the seating areas were ridiculous this weekend and caused a lot of congestion for people trying to get into rest rooms which were also packed.

These are good problems to have but seemingly would could have been avoided w/ a little more thought.
GA sitting is the big one. I understand you can't have GA that is competing with the chairbacks, but it does seem crazy that we have zero bleacher seating. I like berms, but you get two deep "seating" on them. That's fine, but we could have a dozen deep seating if we had some bleachers on at least one side.

It's not realistic to expect it to be easy for a family to come to one of the biggest games of the year, but we could have made it easier.

I’m pretty sure they have raised prices some.
They are also likely going to raise supply in the near future.
Being SLIGHTLY smaller than needed is better than being way to big potentially.

I mean I get chastised for selling single game tickets at a slight premium.
Also, people had 2 years to commit to tickets. Not pay all up front but pay some and commit to multiple years. The athletic department sent reminder after reminder to get people to buy.

They built it off those numbers plus a little.

Hordes of fans clamoring for tickets.. those bastards.
....that won't commit to any certain date or block of time. Just a general, "when I want to bring my wife, 2 year old, wheelchair grandma, and long lost drunk brother, pEoPlEs UnIvErSiTy wont give me a SeATZZ for 8 bUcKs!!111". If you want a seat, pay the price. You can ALWAYS get a ticket (outside of COVID restrictions). So, the GA people are absolutely accommodated.

There aren't hordes of fans clamoring for season tickets, which is what all sports programs build stadiums to accommodate.

That's bull. They weren't fudging those numbers back in the 80s and 90s. It's possible they could have been in the last 10 years or so.

I worked in the athletic department in the early and mid-90s. We most certainly fudged numbers for baseball, football and both basketballs (and sometimes volleyball). It wasn't always egregiously but we absolutely made ourselves look as good as possible.

It wasn't anything that everybody else wasn't (and isn't) doing but to say we didn't do it is factually incorrect.

And if we have anyone in the athletic department the attitude about that 40% "if they won't buy season tickets 17 em" like some of our pompous posters then they should be fired on the spot for shear stupidity. Build more GA seats and if season ticket buyers gobble them up build some more but you want to keep your fanbase involved even if they can't all justify buying season tickets.

Are we expanding the "Motel 6" in the outfield.

This is what I was wondering myself. Didn't the original plan have two condos? Then it was scratched to build one with the option of adding a second in the future as demand rose for premium seating? Two of those would really look awesome out there. It wouldn't solve the problem some of you have with wanting 2,000 more seats, but if the demand for more premium seating is there, then this option needs to be excerised.

The bathroom problem in CF was really bad this weekend. There was a huge line before the end of the 2nd inning Saturday. We built the park for 15,000 but made bathrooms for 1,500.

ETA: Do they not open up grandstand seating at all anymore? When I was in school I think after 4.5 innings you could go sit anywhere. At the school we just beat, I think you can sit anywhere (except club seats) in the stadium as soon as you walk in and if someone with a ticket for that seat shows up, you move. I don't see why we can't do the same. Last year I had to practically beg to get to sit in a chairback just to watch our batting practice and cross my heart and pinky swear to the gatekeeper that I would leave after batting practice.

Second edit to add a quick and dirty photoshop. How about this idea? I have no clue as to how many people could be seated in these areas though.

we are never going to expand for GA only. You have to sell the seats to pay for it. Won't work and won't happen. But wishing is ok.

While I don’t believe we should have built for 12k, we should have aimed for about 8k. There are plenty of crowds in that range. When I say design for 8k, I mean a person should have a real seat and be able to go piss and get a burger in less than a half inning.

That’s a typical SEC weekend with nice weather. We didn’t design for it, but there is room to grow. We need to focus on that and not another “Motel 6”.

Other than Omaha, the Clemson Super Regional is one of the last home games I attended. I can't afford season tickets, and I wouldn't mind sitting on the berm or standing, but I'm not gonna try to fight the crowd for these few GA tickets on big weekends. I'd definitely start coming to more games if more chairbacks where built for GA. I'm sorry I can't commit to season tickets, probably never will be able too, but we shouldn't keep fans like me from coming. Just add 1500 or 2000 and go from there.

I agree on Clemson being very accurate due to NCAA, but those crowds back in the late 80s and early 90s were massive. I was there. Fudging the numbers back then wasn't even a thing, nobody cared but us.

I remember my first SBW in spring '88. As I was walking over from Evans hall (got to live there as a freshmens) and got to the right field outer fence corner - all of the normal watching area was packed, there were some little trees back there with people in them watching, and people behind the trees against the outer fence listening to it on a small radio. I was wondering what the crap was going on. Good times.

How long were the original commitments for?

I wonder if you'll see anyseat holders drop their seats when their commitment is done.

In order to help finance the cost of construction, those who bought season tickets in the New Dude were required to pay 10 years of seat royalties up front.
1/3 was due when they announced the stadium and began taking requests.
1/3 was due when construction started.
The final 1/3 was due when construction was completed.

Example:
I bought 4 seats in the new Dude. Seat royalties were $150 per seat, per year.
4 seats x $150 x 10 years = $6k.
Thus, I had to make 3 payments of $2k each when I bought my seats.

Last year they refunded our commitment money due to the shortened season. This year they said it would NOT count towards the 10 years of paid royalties due to COVID and the initial ticket restrictions. So I think there are 7 (maybe 8?) years left on our original 10 years of seat royalties. I highly doubt you'll see many people drop their seasons tickets and walk away from the thousands of dollars they have already invested in them prior to that initial 10 year period being up.

I also highly doubt you'll see them expand the stadium to just add general admission seating which won't be able to raise the same capital as reserved chairbacks, especially with today's construction costs being thru the roof.

There's no way they're going to expand the stadium to offer general admission. Even if it could be done economically, that'd sort of be poking the people that committed up front in the eye. But they could provide some general admission seating. Or hell, don't even make it general admission, can still have assigned seating that season tickets are sold for, but just make it bleacher seating. Just have to make sure it looks good enough that it doesn't detract from the stadium.

It would seem that an upper deck down each foul line with an SRO deck area on the suites level shouldn't be terribly expensive. If you wanted to sell the seats to season ticket holders, you'd still have more SRO area. Even that could be converted to suites down the road if necessary. Even if all of those seats converted to season tickets, there's still more availability for GA people through the exchange.

Additionally, what about some sort of mini-plan similar to what's done in football? I think it just takes a little creativity to figure out how to sell tickets.

As for the "what will people think if they see empty seats on TV" argument, that's a load of bull crap being sold by the people who don't want others to get to see a game because they didn't pay their dues. The only people stumbling on games on Watch ESPN are MSU fans and if they see empty seats on their TV screen, it just might motivate them to go to a game or two.

I live over 3 hours from Starkville and there's just now way I can do season tickets. So basically, if some people have their way, I'm limited to off peak games and trying to scrounge tickets through resale.

Maybe one day I'll be able to retire closer to the school and enjoy more games.

Well then maybe you can tell me how attendance in the late 90’s was accurately recorded when I had my laminated general admission season ticket (no barcode, no stub, or anything) that I flashed for the event staff guy in the outfield, and the guy barely even looked at it and didn’t have any sort of a click counter on him. I’ll be waiting.

Doing what is necessary to be guaranteed a seat to every home baseball game isn’t easy. For me, it’s required some sacrifice and some planning. When we first expanded the old stadium I had the opportunity to buy a couple of chairbacks and I bought them and I had to purchase the season tickets every year to be able to keep them. When they were planning to build the new stadium I was required to pony up again, and I did. I paid $500 each for my seats originally and paid $600 each when the new stadium was built. I’m not sure how much we have spent for season tickets over the years, but if you added it all up it represents a pretty good sum of money. I just spent $800 back in February for this season as well as $100 for a parking pass. It’s 225 miles one way from my garage to Dudy Noble Field. That round-trip alone is pretty expensive and takes about 8 hours. What I’ll saying is that I look at my chairbacks as an investment. We obviously can’t make every game but we always do our best to make sure someone is using our seats when games are played. The lack of GA seating sucks for sure, and I sympathize with people who want tickets but can’t get them. The only solution is to build more seats but it has to be paid for somehow. For those who hate us chairback seat people, just remember that the new stadium would never have been built without thousands of people agreeing to pony up and invest over the long term.

Its not fudging....its doing what everybody has done since the beginning of time when reporting attendance.

There have been literal dozens of testaments by folks that were at both the Clemson SR Saturday game in 2007 and the UF series in 1989 that swear on their mother’s lives that the Clemson crowd was bigger...possibly on the order of thousands of fans bigger. I was at both myself, but was too young in 1989 to remember too many specifics about the crowd. I can tell you for certain there were way more folks there for Clemson than there were for the 15,000+ we reported against OM a few years ago....not even close.

Those attendance numbers against Clemson were more accurate because you had a much higher percentage of ticket purchasers in the stadium due to the nature of how and when the tickets were sold. Why people think we’d report the numbers differently than everyone else is beyond me.

And this is simply explained. During Super regionals WE HAVE to PAY the NCAA based on the attendance recorded. Not so during the regular season.
YES there was more than 13k there for the Clemson SR... they came in after the 6th inning (or maybe 4th) when the takers stopped checking tickets. I was at both of these games and can verify that by many people I talked to that day at the Clemson SR.. including staff of the athletics dept.

I still believe there were MORE there vs Mississippi than Clemson though... it was just another level of crazyiness. the Super Regional was amazing but sucked because it was 95-100 degrees with full sun and noone could move.

Yes, I think the AD was trying to pre-sell(lease) all of the units before construction was to start.

My thoughts on Berms is related to Trustmark Park in Pearl. Those tickets are much cheaper than Chairbacks. Originally $5 per ticket, now I think they are $6. But... had the Braves built bleachers with backs on that hill and behind the visiting bullpen, Trustmark would have been a Triple A level park. People like to spread out on Berm seating. Designed seats are 22 inches wide in most cases so had they placed actual bleacher seats with backs. You could get more people in those 3 areas. Add bleacher seats with backs up on the hill between the plaza and the scoreboard and 100’s more seats would be created. Paint the bleachers maroon so they don’t look like Swayze Field Beer Garden. Make sure the trash cans aren’t in front of the bleachers too!****

Nobody hates the season ticket holders. People hate that there are numerous empty seats on every broadcast but very few tickets available. If the administration wants a "full" stadium then they are gonna have to develop some type of use it or lose it system. Maybe make it so that season ticket holders that know the games they don't plan to attend can put their tickets on a website. Give them an incentive in the form of Bulldog Club points for putting it there and maybe a small refund on the tickets if they sell. If their tickets aren't on the website and aren't used then they lose Bulldog Club points.

I hands down agree and I don’t sit in the Grandstand but seeing hundreds if not thousands of people having to STAND or sit on a grass berm is ridiculous.
Grass berms are ok if you have maybe 500 total for both LF and RF areas but we could have and should have built more chairback seats down the lines.
We could have easily accommodated another 1500 seats each in LF and RF.

Is anyone saying they are against expanding? I haven’t read that at all.

People are saying they originally built it with the correct mindset.

Also, there are abt 4 out of every 15 to 20 home series/games where it’s hard to find a ticket. That isn’t that bad.

People literally ***** when I try and sell 2 tickets for $40 to an SEC game. If you can’t pay $40 and don’t want to buy $10 general admission, then get the 17 off my lawn.

This was obvious from very early on in the actual build. Which was for current demand based on people willing to spend for the psl’s 3 years in advance, instead of what a whole bunch or us foresaw as our actual demand, even in this very website

I still can’t quite wrap my mind around why we left the dugout orientation the way it was instead of tearing that up and starting over. It’s going to make expanding down the foul line very difficult. Must have been a cost thing, but it would have been well worth the expense from a sight line standpoint.

The only way to expand chairbacks will be to do the upper decks as someone else pointed out, but that will only add a limited number of seats. It’s a great park, but that was a shortsighted mistake.

You're right about the triple play tickets, or something similar. You're wrong about people's attitude who have "paid their dues".

Get rid of that victim mentality ******** and come up with real solutions (like the triple play deal), and people will listen. The folks who want to have a GA chairback on SBW are just idiots, that's just being real.

Why would we not just add chair backs or even bleachers to the foul poles? Seems like a no brainer. Saw all the folks standing 3 deep with no chance of seeing game.

When we do, they will not be GA tickets. They will be season tickets with a Bulldog club donation required to get the tickets.

Adding a GA section is stupid from a $$$ standpoint.

We could build a stadium that sat 65,000 and still fill it up for 1-3 weekends a year (super bulldog, NCAA regional, NCAA super regional), but building it would never pay for itself
