We got a punter

I went to high school with him. I was a senior and he was a freshman. However, he would consistently punt 60+ yards. I think his average his senior season was 50 something. Its a good pick up if he doesn't choke.

I'm not saying I don't believe you - this guy might be legit. But, over the years it seems as though there is always some high school (or juco ) kid that averages 50+ and booms them over 60 on a fairly consistent basis. I think McAdams was one of these guys actually. This isn't even an MSU-only problem - its seems as though there is always a freak punter out there. But, every year, you might see a few punters appropach the 50 yard average mark in the college ranks, but nothing over.

Questions is: What happens to all these punters or why does their performance lower in college? Is the ball that much different in high school? The statiticians suck? Or, just some good old fashioned story tellin'? Or, maybe I'm just imagning things.

Well, that's why i threw in the last line of "if he doesn't choke". I understand. I just know from what I've seen. He's basically lived punting for the past 6 years, and he's the #1 Juco Punter, and I haven't backed up these stats, but someone told me if you compared his juco stats to the NCAA (same ball) he'd be #2. Now, there's a lot of different things in play here... But I was just saying what he COULD be...

I also pray we don't coach him. Carlson was a great kicker in high school and look what we've done to him.

Also, not sure of his PAT stats for 07 & 08, but seems he was perfect in 05 & 06 (from the linked page). At least he's good at that.

Heath can kill the ball. All he needed was a phone call and would have been a dog 2 years ago. He didn't choke at Saltillo and he didn't choke at ICC. He leads the nation in punting in JC so.....I will go out on a small 17ing limb and say.....It's about 17ing time Crxxm.

Editor's note- I mean, you use the 17 two other times, why not three? Was it that important to you? How do you people get through life?

Well, I've seen him punt since his freshman year in HS, and I've known he could punt. However, he didn't get looks because, well, his senior season, Saltillo was 0-10

Well, that is certainly a point of contintion.

I mean, everyone that signs as a division I-A (or whatever they call it thesedays) punter was absolutely killing the ball in highschool. I don't know if we try to teach them to kick it better through a totally different technique. I don't know if we are poor at teaching them to deal with pressure. But, something happens to these guys. Somehow, they get 17'ed up.
We might not sign the best in the country. But, we have signed some very good ones. And it hasn't worked out. How can that be?
