We have got to treat SEC play like a single game elimination tournament.

I see us being at 8-6 at best heading into SEC play. I am sure we will blowa couplethat we shouldn't but I think that now a 13-3 SEC record at the minimum might be needed to get in the Dance.
I am a nut hair away from apathy but when you look at our FULL roster with Bost, Sidney (if he gets in shape), Kodi, Ravern, and Bryant and then you look at the teams that the rest of the SEC is putting on the court then there is at least a little reason for hope. Certainly we are one of the top 3 most talented teams.

Note: Coach or your cronies, can we please discuss the actual team and the playersfor once and leave our idiot coach out of the discussion for once?

I'm not sure we're good enough even with Bost to get to 13-3, even with how bad the west is yada yada yada, we just aren't very good. Plain and simple. I'll cream my pants if we get more than 13 SEC wins, I'm thinking more 10-6 11-5. Which would leave it up to winning the SEC tourny AGAIN.

Lets assume for a second MSU or Ole Miss could go 13-3 in the SEC, which neither school has even shown a chance of doing, it still may not be enough due to how bad the SEC West is. AL, AU and LSU are going to be 150 RPI type teams, with AU being close to 200. Those six wins will barely count, and that is assuming we don't blow games against one of those schools.

If you don't get a win against UF, TN, or KY, its really going to be tough to make a tourney argument for both schools. Our best win so far this year is against USM. Thats right USM. Im not sure what MSU's best win so far this year is.

Considering we both got blown out by middle of the road ACC teams, I think that is a fair indicator of the type of programs we have right now. Sure we both may compete for the SEC West, but at the end of the day, who cares if you are going to the NIT.

Wake me up if we win the SECT. That's the only way this season will result in post-season play. Even if we find our identity early in SEC play, we are going to have to straight up dominate to get an at-large tournament invite. Not going to happen. We might end up having a respectable SEC record at the end of the year simply because our conference is a terrible excuse for a legitimate basketball conference. That still won't get us in - not with our OOC performance.

Hurry up, Super Bulldog Weekend!

Currently there are 5 SEC teams in the top 50 RPI, 4 in the East and one in the West (Ole Miss believe it or not). That means that State has 6 shots at top 50 RPI wins as it stands now. I think bare minimum we have to get 4 of those plus not lose more than one to the rest of the SEC.
The sad thing is that right now WE are the RPI killers if anyone loses to us.

We will lose every game until Bost is back and then it will still be a work in progress. We have plenty of talent to compete for the SEC title, but Stans will not be able to coach them. Let's hope Bost, Ravern, Kodi and the RSS will play up to their potential come SEC play. We have to have a winning record vs the top SEC East teams or our only hope is winning the SEC tourney, sound familiar. We sure could use Osby and Turner this year. This season's lack of defense is really showing how much SWAT meant to the past few years team and how bad Stans has been at coaching.

The only teams we can win a game against in the SEC are Auburn, LSU and Alabama. We have played one game away from home and lost by 30. The games at home were all against plus 200 RPI teams. You saw what Ole Miss did to East Tennessee, who beat us.

How can any of you think we can win more than six SEC games, even with Bost is beyond me. Without him we might win two.

Sure State has some offensive talent, but we have nobody who can defend or rebound. You can't just improve on those things midseason. It would be like a football team getting faster after game 6. You can either rebound/defend or you can't and unfortunately, we can't. And that is the reason why this team has no chance. The only way we'll beat teams is to make about 12-16 3's and shoot around 50%.

Get a hold of yourself man. The SEC sucks. If we don't win 6 SEC games then we need to burn down the Hump and discontinue the program.

And we're right at the bottom of the suckitude barrel with those teams. Don't know if you've noticed but we are the lowest RPI ranked 7 win team in the nation. Arkansas will be favored to sweep us. Prolly split with UM, Bama. Should sweep LSU and Auburn (but wouldn't be surprised to lose one). That's 6 wins right there. Every team in the East will be favored over us, as they should be right now.

So how is that far of a stretch?

I am not saying we are a great or even good team but everything we have done up until now does not have much bearing on how we will do when SEC play starts. We racked up that stellar RPI with Benock, Bailey, and Beckham starting except for the Virginia Tech debaclewhich was our 6th game in 8 days.
All I am saying is that not many SEC teams have a shooter like Ravern, a PG like Bost, or a forward like a hopefully soon to be in shape Sidney. This season is a long way from over.

We have Stans as our coach, and he is not doing a good job this year. He does not have SWAT in the middle on defense and he has somehow forgotten to teach the current players any defense/rebounding over the past 3 years... We will once again live and die by the 3 ball...

I was intentionally trying to leave him out of the discussion because I don't see alot of coaches in the SEC outside ofDonovan,Pearl, Stallings, and Caliparithat arethatmuch better. I am hoping the overall level of poor coaching will even it out and talent can get us over the hump.
I also thought it would be nice to talk about the players instead of Stansbury for once.

sure losses- @Mississippi, @Georgia, @Kentucky, @Tennessee, @UPig- thats 11-5 at best we could do this year

other possibles- Florida, Vandy, @Bammer, SC, @LSU

I'm seeing 10-6 at the very best, 9-7 or 8-8 most likely in SEC play

With a team that is average at best on defense, and weak in the post...and no bench- I dont see this season turning out very well

That is probably pretty accurate. I don't see us winning a road game against a decent SEC team but we should win @LSU and @Auburn with a shot at winning @Alabama. The good thing is that our home schedule is sort of favorable with SC, Vandy, and Florida from the East. Those 3 tend to play much different away from home. 8-8 is very likely in my opinion.
