We have to get back to rebounding and defense

Whether Stans is here or not, this program must get its' identity back. All the good teams of the early and middle 2000's had good defense and leading the league in rebounding in common. Over the past two or three years that has been lost. Just like in football, MSU basketball is most successful when we are physical, play defense, and control the game. Whoever the coach is next year must recruit these types of Players and re-establish the identity of Mississppi State basketball. Blue colar and do the little things right.

but the tv department still has all the footage from 2001-2004 and Stansbury should be given all of it and told to watch every single game. He doesn't have Alzheimer's so he should remember how to teach it, that is if we was at his practices for 5 straight years.

its not b/c Rick is some genius who has lost his touch.

Its because we don't have big physical guards that give you an edge in rebounding. Its because we don't 4-5 interchangeable parts out there that can switch every screen. That's what we did with Z, Bowers, Gholar, Patters, Vincent, etc. It makes beating screens so much easier.

The smaller our guards get the worse we have rebounded.

This team doesn't work hard. Defense and rebounding is about effort. Everybody has played against someone who is not very talented but they try harder than anyone else......while that doesn't usually translate into points on the offensive end (talent is required to score) it does translate to good defense. I remember the Tourney game we played against UW.....those cats came out hustling and in our face and it was over right then because we didn't match their intensity.<div>
</div><div>That comes from coaching. You have to demand effort. If those pussies had played 5 minutes of solid team-defense last night we would have won the game. Stans couldn't get them to do it. Who the hell knows why......he just isn't getting it done.</div>

51-38. They shot 15 more attempts than us and shot 43.3% for the game. Let that sink in for a bit. MSU is and has been playing awful defense for awhile now.

But if the 11 people he's trying to teach it to, don't give a 17 about him or respect him one bit, the cure will go untaught and you get no results..

Why is this so hard to for everyone to see? Its been slowly getting out of hand over the past decade. Every year it gets a little worse and after 8-10 consecutive seasons of more and more players not giving a 17 and/or respecting the head coach, you get the 2011-2012 MSU basketball season.

Respect is earned, not given. I've seen people get promotions in our company, but none of their subordinates respect them, nothing gets done, and then the previously promoted person is let go. Its simple really, and I don't understand how our entire fan base does not realize this, especially after what we've witnessed over the past 5 weeks.

We have ****** basketball programs, such as LSU and Auburn, thanking us for keeping Stansbury around this long. We could have been widening the gap between us and the other 5 programs in the SEC West and becoming a top 3 SEC team every season, but instead we've slowly been creeping back to the middle of the pack.

name we a game during the SEC schedule other than the UK game and the OM game at home that you thought we matched or beat the intensity of the other team.

I'm having a hard time coming up with any. We looked much better earlier in the year against Baylor, Arizona, A&M
