...And almost every thread on the front page is about Ole Miss.

We signed 28 players. Picked up 3 big commitments today alone. We didn't lose anyone that matters.

Today has been the best signing day I can remember, and all everyone wants to talk about is Ole Miss and how bad they suck. You're acting like a bunch of Ole Miss fans right now.

I was at State from 2001-2005 and we sucked...we sucked for another 4 years after that (aside from our Liberty Bowl Championship). During that entire time, I had to put up with so much hoity-toit B.S. from Ole Miss fans that I'm going to enjoy my time in the sun. I'm going to collect my dues with interest for every time I heard, "Does State even still have a football team?" Or the numerous times that it was so arrogantly rubbed in my face that they had a football team that was winning while my football team was losing to Maine and several other "homecoming" opponents.

So, yes - we had a great recruiting day. I have never been prouder to be a State fan than I am right now. And I'm going to flaunt our championships while I can. And every Ole Miss loving joker out there can tell me I have "little brother syndrome" or whatever they like to try to keep their spirit up. We are WINNING, dammit! And I'm going to rub it in their blue and red painted, solo cup drinking, fratty bow tie wearing faces!

This is OUR TIME! They had their time, and we caught hell for it...if they don't like it they shouldn't be sniffing around our message boards. GTHOM!

You and Lars should go out and have a glass of wine tonight and discuss how much it sucks to talk about how much ole miss sucks - I'll be on this board, talking about how much ole miss sucks.

what I've been failing to get across. It's like you guys think if we don't obsessively talk about Ole Miss and how bad they suck then State will get complacent and become bad again. How about focusing on how we can get to the next level. The Auburn, South Carolina and Georgia level. I have been a fan through the end of Sherrill and the Croom years and I'm glad to have made it outta that mess. I'd much rather set our goals on finally beating LSU. That is the one win I want most right now. Constantly obsessing over Ole Miss doesn't make much sense to me. We've beaten them 3 years in a row and they fired 2 coaches in the last 4 years. LSU lost Jefferson and Lee. They have no established QB right now that I know of. Let's finally get a win over them please. This next step is where I think the focus should be not Ole Miss. The longer we stay on the ground kicking and laughing at the dead Ole Miss the easier it is for LSU, Bama, Arkansas and even Auburn to step over us. Stand up bulldogs.

kickingUM around and keeping them on the ground is fundamental to where we all want to get to. Our base is in Mississippi and we have to solidify that and defend it FIRST. Keeping them down is the only way to do that. Making fun of them at every opportunity is part of that. Mullen gets that. Our marketing department gets it. Why don't you?

to only focus on that State will never get to the next level. That animal is dead, the next one standing there and laughing at us is Auburn. It's time to take that one down now. Do you honestly think if we beat Auburn 3 years in a row we won't also be beating Ole Miss? For all of you that continue to obsess with Ole Miss only makes me think you don't really think MSU is on the same level as Auburn. MSU doesn't grow as a program if all it does is focus on Ole Miss. The bar has been raised. It's time to reach up and raise the bar again. To continue to focus on the lower bar will not grow the MSU football program to the levels we all want it to be.

ain't dead. It is wounded. Your attitude is why we have always squandered opportunities like this in the past. Defend the base and reach higher. We always wind up forgetting that first part. The bears have too since Vaught. It's time we don't.

with just beating Ole Miss. I want to beat Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, LSU and aTm. All of them including Ole Miss. Then we can stand on the top of the hill and laugh at all of them. We will NEVER get to the top of that hill if we continue to only stay at the bottom beating on the retarded Ole Miss. I really 17ing hate Auburn and we can beat them and overtake their place on the hill. It's time to do that.

You know you must be doing something right** (I don't think this needs sarcasterisks...but just in case for you few lot out there...)<div>
</div><div>When you guys legitimately believe that as a fanbase we should stop focusing on our rivals just to reach "the next level" there is something seriously wrong with that. True, it is our job as a whole group, fans, administration, athletes/coaches to move up at the same time, but as fans, what good does it do us to talk about how we should disregard Ole Miss and compete with the Alabamas and LSUs...? It doesn't do a bit of good nor bad. How much we talk about other teams/rivals is not going to take us to the next level. Becoming more passionate about games does.</div><div>
</div><div>What you 17ers are failing to realize is that this is a SPORTS message board. You making threads about how we should stop talking about Ole Miss is...well.. 17ing retarded because you're adding to the damn discussion with threads like this in the first place. If you don't like them, don't participate or better yet, LEAVE. You do not have to score above a 20 on the ACT to figure this little principle out.</div>

does it bother you that I don't like the constant obsession with Ole Miss on the MSU message board? You seem to get mad at me for voicing my opinion on this subject. This is twice you have told me to leave this board. Remember I've been here long before you showed up so that's pretty self righteous of you to tell me to leave. I don't like MSU fans constantly talking about Ole Miss. Why do you? I thought you are a USM fan. Stop trolling my posts stalker.

Next time you feel the urge to reply to one of my posts watch this stupid *** video instead. Laugh its so funny that you should make it your sig. Oh wait

He merely suggested you stop reading if you don't like the content of the board. Sounds like pretty sound advice to me.

It's already been stated but I didn't just tell you to leave. I suggested you either avoid these subjects all together or you could easily leave if it's that much of a problem for you. It's not going to stop, nor should it. When you're in the minority, sometimes it's best to either roll with the punches or distance yourself entirely.

Auburn, LSU, and Bama as much as possible on ..... wait for it..... THE INTERWEBS!! We can do so much for the team. We can scheme some plays from screenshots from old school Nintendo football. We can help out with advertising campaigns. I may be able to help with my farking. Who knows man? The sky is the 17ing limit! National Title here we come baby. Woo hoooo. I'm getting wooly just thinking about having a conversation with you that will ultimately lead to us beating the absolute hell outof Bama in the fall. This interweb thing is wicked cool.

The problem with this situation, The Bears ain't thru, and they ain't quit'in.
History has shown that they will beg, borrow, or buy their way back.
We just need to enjoy it while we can.

I was just about to post the same thing. If only we talked on the internet about beating Alabama, Auburn, etc., it would happen. Dawg61 is like the guy who gets mad when there is an Alabama topic the week of the Arkansas game. "WE NEED TO BE CONCENTRATING ON THE HOGS!!!" No we don't. We're posters on a message board.

I never said don't talk about Ole Miss. I never said we should only talk about MSU, and sunshine, and Gene's Page.

I was just pointing out how pathetic our fan base is, by citing yet another example.

that the majority of our fanbase is satisfied with mediocrity as long as mediocrity includes beating Ole Miss. Dan gets 2.5mill+ but all he has to do is beat OM and get to a ****** bowl game and you guys will love it every year. It's 17ing sad.

How talking about beating LSU, Bama, and Auburn on Sixpackspeak correlates into us becoming a better football team. Am I missing something? If that's the difference in us becoming a national powerhouse then by all means, i'll never metion the bears again

Or the rest of the SEC? Just because we actually like to talk **** about our rival that happens to suck almost as bad as we have? That's not just retarded.... that is special.

Expectations. 1. This is a message board. 2. Student athletes win college games. 3. Message board posters don't affect the focus of college athletes. 4. Therefore **** talking, taunting, and direction if ire do not affect outcomes of games. Get it?

...but I remember when Olemiss got too big for their in-state rivalry a few years ago and tried to move on to the corndogs. That movement had a lot of support on message boards.

My point: NEVER FORGET!

but do you "get it" that if we as a fanbase condone only beating Ole Miss and making a ****** bowl game as a successful season that we will forever be pleased with then that's all that we will see. It's time to step up our expectations and posting 30-40% of the posts on OM is not taking that step.

We don't need to forget TSUN, but I sure am ready to beat Auburn. If we keep beating TSUN this will happen though. Look at the recruiting class we just got. Since we didn't switch staff for the first time since Croom days, I believe, we were actually able to keep all our recruits. It should turn out pretty well in the future for us. Constant growth.

What in the world makes you think that folks like us taking shots at our rival PRECLUDES us from doing our part, as fans, to raise expectations? (And yes, Dan Mullen has said it's important for us to do that.) You act as if us taking shots at Ole Miss, desiring to keep our foot on their neck prevents us from wanting and/or expecting to improve relative to other SEC teams. That's just ludicrous! The two things are not mutually exclusive.<div>
</div><div>We can take more shots at Ole Miss now because we are consistently whipping their butts, and that is a great feeling. When we start beating AU, LSU, ARky, etc that will also be a great feeling and will undoubtedly result in more banter/posts about those teams. But even then, I would expect far more posts about Ole Miss because they are our main rival, and as has been pointed out before, they will always be a threat to us in recruiting, moreso when they are relatively successful. For long-term success we need to stay on top of them as much as possible so Dan can better realize his strategy of "owning the state" as a building block for all future success.</div>

UM managed to turn quite a few recruits last year to go to that trainwreck. This year things are 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

Could the fact that they're paying out for the HDN contract be the factor here? Do they no longer have the funds they once had on hand to 'convince' a recruit just how awesome Oxford and the Grove really is?
