http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9604635/nfl-study-hits-knees-eye-rule-change

The NFL has now announced it will be monitoring hits to the knees and may make rule changes next year banning hits to the knees to defenseless players. I guess if you are not deemed defenseless you can take a knee out. Players better start wearing extra large and padded cups because at the rate they are going the only place to legally hit a player is going to be in the crotch. In five years it may be reduced to two hand touch in the NFL and instant replay will be to see if they LB really grazed him with that left index finger while maintaining contact with his right hand.

NFL might as well bite the bullet and convert to flag football.

i still have the opinion that the NFL PA has been the biggest blow to the NFL.

if they would nut up and admit that they play a dangerous game and admit that they understand the consequences of having an NFL career, i think it would all work itself out. but damn... the NFL PA acts as if this "dangerous game" thing is new to them.

As many of my manufacturing partners and I have discussed time and time again, there was a time when unions played a vital role in American society. They played a big part in improving horrible working conditions and in general, most work places are now much safer because of them. That said, most remaining unions that are still in place today are out for one thing and that's $$$. The NFLPA is no different... they've just been able to go after those dollars by disguising it as an effort to promote player safety. It's laughable.

Well, they're getting what they asked for and due to the fact that that the NFLPA is made up of nothing but blood sucking lawyers and former players without an ounce of business acumen, they had no foresight to see any of this coming. The NFL will survive, but it's truly unfortunate that it's the fans and the game itself that end up paying the price rather than these idiots.

Is that really a bad thing?

Ryan Clark said this...

"If they decide to change this rule they might as well put flags [on players] because then you give a guy like myself, who's 200 pounds, a two-foot area to stop a guy who's 240, 250 running at full speed, and that's going to be kind of hard to do."

Well tough ****. Man up and hit him in the pads. To me, this actually makes football better by taking out what is basically a full body attempt to trip a guy. Thighs to shoulders. Hit the 17er and tackle him if you can.

i didn't want to bring up the labor union analogy, because some people take that political, but you're spot on.. it is no different than modern day labor unions who want more for less (or more for more, depending on how you look at it).

Yep. In 15 years the NFL & CFB will look fundamentally different. Enjoy these halcyon days, boys.
