Our defense has just been on the field functionally for the last 5 minutes of the game. They were gassed. You win the toss and make two bad decisions by putting D on the field and then they get to chose playing into the M-club end, not into the teeth of our noise in the student section. The end of the game I feel showed the youth of our head coach. Overall team played to their opponent we have issues but was fun to watch a competitive SEC game.

Every coach in America chooses defense first in overtime.

Tell me you know nothing about college football OT without saying you know nothing about college football OT.

I understand your thought, but no way a coach makes that decision. Can’t do it.

I won't pile on, but if you have the option you do have to go on D first in OT.

The problem was all the play calling decisions late in regulation that put the D on the field for way too many minutes considering our obvious lack of depth.

I agree, if people read my post beyond the first line that was what I was trying to convey, they were completely gassed because of crappy playcalling on our last possession and them being on the field for so long at the end of regulation. I just wonder if he even considered it in the situation, isn't that what football is about situational?

I 100% agree with you. Maybe everyone in the country chooses defense first, but your logic is actually right. Two things happen had we chose offense first —— one, our defense gets a breather, and second, had we settled for a field goal on offense, our defense would have had that added urgency to keep them out of the end zone. Even if defense goes first, giving up a TD isn’t the end of the world, because the offense still comes out. I think situationally this would have been a risky, yet strong strategic choice to put offense out first. It’s all in the past now. I don’t think that’s the main issue for our loss anyway. Giving up two turnover touchdowns killed us tonight.

We are leap years ahead of last year. Will be interesting to see how we respond to a loss next weekend.

I agree with the D being gassed and we needed to force TN to play into our students......I really felt we needed to force our run and go for the first touchdown.

Our guys had fought the entire game, and while I agree, in almost all cases, make your opponent prove they can do it first, this time I just felt we needed to go on the offensive

*that missed field goal

We lost on that three and out series on our last possession in regulation….absolutely worst case scenario.

No coach on earth doesn’t go on defense first. To critique Lebby for something literally every other coach, regardless of age, would have done is not the best argument.

I have no problem playing Defense first. IMO the most bizarre coaching decision came from Heupel. The details are a bit fuzzy, but he had the ball on his 40ish with like 50 seconds left. He had two timeouts too. He could have driven 30 yds and attempted a FG to win in regulation but he let the time just runout.

again, details are a bit fuzzy but that was bizarre to me.
