You cannot defend his declaration of defeat with more than a minute remaining in the game tonight. Jack was the best when he followed Dudy Noble's instructions to him when he started broadcasting for MSU--and Jack proclaimed for many years that his following those instructions was the secret of his success and fine reputation. The instructions were simple and consisted of three elements: (1) tell the listening audience what is happening on each play of the game; (2) give the audience the score frequently; and (3) no BS. He has forgotten instruction number 3. Prior to the last several years he was regarded as the perfect play by play broadcaster. Unless one knew Jack Cristil, one could not discern from his broadcasts that he was being paid by MSU. That is no longer the case because Jack is a bull in a china shop when it comes to criticizing the officials (something he never did in the first 40 years of his broadcasting--I know because I have been listening to him for more than 40 years) and criticizing our own players. I still love him, but I wish he would revert to his old self in the twilight of his career. He is still a remarkable octogenarian.
