Were Texas to need a 6th win-and there is one bowl spot remaining which would go to us if Texas loses-against Baylor on Dec.5th,will we be able to conduct practices until that date?

More importantly,Flood must likely would have to be retained until that time, losing a week's hunt for a replacement.

Who knew that these additional bowl games could cause these problems?

This assumes we win the last 2 games. While we should beat Army, Maryland is very much a toss up and, in fact, I'd bet on Maryland if I wasn't an RU fan. But we'll see how things play out.

To answer your OP, Flood should be fired on December 1 at the very latest. Norries Wilson can re-assume the interim HC title until a new coach is brought in.
A 5-7 college football team does not deserve a bowl game, period. Watching 5-7 teams playing in bowl games is akin to playing for a participation trophy. Those who accept that sort of sub-mediocrity are free to watch it; I'd rather catch Law & Order reruns.

For the record, I didn't watch 6-6 Rutgers play V-tech in 2013 either, only to end up with a losing season.
6-6 rutgers played ND in 2013. 9-3 Rutgers played VT in 2012. Both losses due to QB play.

It is more than a toss up. Maryland is playing like a pretty good FB team.Their D is definitely good and if Hill has a good day so is their O. Remember that we were 25 points down to them, last year, before boredom set in for the Terps.

I agree with you regarding the Terps but I've said this before; Flood seems to pull one out when we least expect it (USF 2013, MD 2014, Indiana already this year). We're at home and somehow, as ridiculous as it sounds, might be playing for a bowl game at 4-7. Flood might be coaching for his job in this one just as in 2013, or at least in his mind he might be able to save himself with a win. We probably won't be favored (and I wouldn't bet on us to outright win either) but it isn't far-fetched. So maybe it's not a true pick 'em but I'd give us ~40% chance to win.

Someone here might know the situation better than I but while driving home from the game on Saturday night, we heard that once all of the 6-6 or better teams have been placed in bowls, the 5-7 teams will be chosen based upon their academic standing. Is this correct? Because if it is, RU would almost certainly be chosen for a bowl, even though winning it would still mean a losing season. The only benefit I could see from this is the extra practice time, as many have noted over the past 10 years. But beyond that, assuming that Flood will not be back, that practice time will be supervised by assistant coaches who are all job-hunting. Ask Cincy fans (from 2009) how that turned out, once Kelly departed for ND.

Once ALL 6-6 teams are offered - then 5-7 teams are offered any remaining, open bowl bids BASED ON ORDER of APR score (assuming eligible FCS teams are not offered spots).

Among teams that could finish 5-7, Boston College (3-7), Utah State (5-5), Nebraska (5-6), Vanderbilt (4-6) Rutgers (3-7), Georgia Tech. (I think that's the correct APR order).

December 5th is my birthday. Where I once would have hoped for a bowl game berth as a gift I am asking for something completely different this year. Maybe a "Golden" ring?

You would normally ask for a place to dock your ship? :p

Keep in mind that sometimes going to a bowl can have a negative cash flow. Therefore in what person's logic should by chance RU get a bowl invitation it would probably be to one of the lower paying bowls and would make no sense to accept the invitation given the "neutral budget we don't have the money" philosophy of Barchi.

add in we will not come close to selling our ticket allotment so the school may have to purchase them and hand them out to homeless people wandering the streets of whatever town we play in.
