If we're going to lock every thread on the board, perhaps we could have some Mod-approved threads that people are actually allowed to communicate in. Four of the last five threads I clicked on were locked when I tried to respond to someone.

I shouldn't have to pay for the CE Board to discuss canceled bowl games or the rules to enter a home basketball game.CE board.
But it's too often like this: Side A posts comments that Side B thinks are baloney or misinformation. Side B takes issue with Side A's comments and responds. Side A repeats. Side B repeats. Side A may resort to insults. Side B may resort to insults back. Some posters invariably end up violating football forum rules by getting political and/or resorting to personal attacks. Nobody changes their minds. Repeat entire process. Then thread gets locked by mods to try to maintain forum rules and civility. If we're going to lock every thread on the board, perhaps we could have some Mod-approved threads that people are actually allowed to communicate in. I agree. You shouldn’t.I shouldn't have to pay for the CE Board to discuss canceled bowl games or the rules to enter a home basketball game.
So let adults talk and disagree. Problem solved.I agree. You shouldn’t.
But there hasn’t been a covid-related thread yet that hasn’t almost immediately devolved into an ideological, often overtly political, uninformed CE-board style disinformation-filled opinion-fest.
That’s hardly the fault of Ritchie or the mods.
Are you or I closing a thread?I agree. You shouldn’t.

Not sure that’s true. There are at least three ”sides” to these discussions, probably more. And I’m pretty sure that the final posts in locked threads have been representative of various different positions.Seems like the same side is getting the last word.
Not scientific, just an observation.
Well again, I didn’t say it was scientific. Just an observation. Not sure that’s true. There are at least three ”sides” to these discussions, probably more. And I’m pretty sure that the final posts in locked threads have been representative of various different positions.
Not sure what the percentages would be. But it doesn’t seem to me that the moderation is intentionally choosing sides. Be easy for someone to forensically determine that, though.
That’s silly. I’m not resorting to any generalized finger-pointing in any of these threads. I am certainly not demonizing anybody’s chosen political party, or ideology, or any red or blue states, because I have zero interest in that sort of nonsensical stuff.Pot meet kettle
Understood. You could be more right than I about it. I would trust your memory more than mine.Well again, I didn’t say it was scientific. Just an observation.
But that’s how it looks to me.
100% this.I shouldn't have to pay for the CE Board to discuss canceled bowl games or the rules to enter a home basketball game.
that's not going to help this thread100% this.
Stop locking the threads pussies. Absolutely ****ing ridiculous; mods should be ashamed.
How is it the mods fault that some community members cannot stop making everything political or resorting to personal insults? Like you just did.100% this.

While there may nominally be civility rules, they don’t seem to be enforced anywhere outside of covid threads. Then thread gets locked by mods to try to maintain forum rules and civility.
The behavior of posters isn’t their fault, their reaction to it is. They can just… not lock the threads. It’s not like the rules are handed down from God.How is it the mods fault that some community members cannot stop making everything political or resorting to personal insults? Like you just did.
It’s a free forum. Those of us who don’t choose to pay the extremely inexpensive fee for premium are not paying customers and ought to probably avoid criticizing, or insulting, the moderators and forum owner. The behavior of posters isn’t their fault, their reaction to it is. But also, to be clear, a post calling someone a ***** would not ever be moderated in any way or get any thread locked outside of a COVID thread.
Peace on Earth, goodwill towards men.100% this.

You can feel how you want about caustic language, but I am free to criticize whatever and whoever I want regardless of whether I pay for access to the forum or not. You are welcome to think I shouldn’t. It’s not clear why I should care about your opinion on the matter. It’s a free forum. Cool story. My feeling is your pompous “centrism” is these kinds of threads is obnoxious. I suspect you care approximately as much about my opinion of your posting as I do about your opinion of mine.I‘m grateful to the owner and moderators for these free forums. It’s a lot more work and hassle than most people realize. I don’t think criticizing them, or calling them pussies, is called for. My feeling is, if people don’t like it here, they should go elsewhere. Especially people who pay nothing.

it's the conversations that hijack the canceled bowl game talk that gets the thread locked.I shouldn't have to pay for the CE Board to discuss canceled bowl games or the rules to enter a home basketball game.
Counterpoint: I think you are absolutely on the batshit crazy and/or stupid side of the COVID arguments and I am against locking the threads.I often find only one political ideology wants to silence people that disagree with their POV.
Grown men and women on this site and some of you beg for threads to be locked. Really? Don't post in them. It's not RL.
What are you guys going to do at the Pep Rally Thursday if people start talking about COVID after downing some drinks and you disagree with their POV? Ask the bartender to throw us out?
Pompous centrism? You can feel how you want about caustic language, but I am free to criticize whatever and whoever I want regardless of whether I pay for access to the forum or not. You are welcome to think I shouldn’t. It’s not clear why I should care about your opinion on the matter.

Lol.Pompous centrism?
I always felt I was more arrogantly moderate than pompously centrist. No? How about irritatingly independent? Possessed of equilateral equanimity? Ooooh! Perhaps what I really am is superciliously serene?
It’s a combination of two things:Its a lot of the same posters that can’t help themselves from taking repeated political potshots on a Rutgers message board doing it.
I’ve been a member here for 15+ years and it’s never been worse. Its a shame. In person, everyone here would get along and vibe well with their huge Rutgers fandom. Message board culture at its worst, I guess.
An all-inclusive Covid thread probably wouldn't solve the problem though. It seems pretty obvious based on past history that the small handful of usual suspects would still try to politicize or hijack other threads whenever they got a chance. It's like the old Scorpion and the Frog fable.... "I could not help myself.. It is my nature."At least the Suckacuse forum's Rutgers thread keeps all the nonsense to one spot there. Maybe an all-inclusive COVID thread would solve the problem here.
I disagree. Look around outside. This message board is a reflection of society as a whole. And right now, society spends a remarkably large amount of time focused on political issues. In many respects, these issues (particularly Covid) have been made inescapable. Even if you want to avoid them, you can't (NEWSFLASH: It's the reason we're playing in a bowl game a week from now). I think that if you had a Rutgers party the night before the Gator Bowl and conservatives all wore red, liberals all wore white, and independents all wore black, within half an hour you'd have three groups of uniform colors all standing in different corners of the room speaking among themselves. That's society; it has nothing to do with Rutgers or this message board.I’ve been a member here for 15+ years and it’s never been worse. Its a shame. In person, everyone here would get along and vibe well with their huge Rutgers fandom. Message board culture at its worst, I guess.
I think a few on this board got coal in their stockingPeace on Earth, goodwill towards men.
I guess we have to wait another 364 days for that.
I will 100% admit to being arrogantly (even obnoxiously) moderate and centrist. It‘s a perfectly fair description of me.Lol.
To be fair, I mostly like your posting. I think arrogantly moderate may, in fact, be a better description.
