We should play Notre Dame in football

I have no idea if they have an opening, but I think we would kick their ***, and it would be kind of cool to say that we played Notre Dame. I wouldn't be opposed to playing them in South Bend.

I've been to Notre Dame 3 times, once even to see them kick the Rebs ***. Unbelievable place.

Too risky. We don't know how good they will be or how good we will be in the 3 4 or 5 years in the future that you have to make scheduling deals from. Not when we are playing against richer conference rivals with more recruiting clout, AND in the toughest division in the country. The risk vs reward just doesn't work.

However, in the "what team would you like to play in a bowl game" scenario, I totally dig Notre Dame. Put Nebraska on that list for me too.

They're worse than Alabama, because they have more titles.

They have been a .500 football team for over a decade now minus a few good years, and they play a very mediocre, big-10 laden schedule.

We'd skull17 the **** out of them the last two years, and we would this year too.

We have one nice season and some of you bastards want to beef up the schedule. The schedule is tough enough as it is. 17 Notre Dame --- let's play Holy Cross.

If we ever get to the point where we get snubbed from a BCS game, then it's time to beef up the schedule. Until then, anything more than a directional school is an unnecessary risk.

I'm plenty entertained playing Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and a couple east schools each year. That's plenty of quality. If you want to see Notre Dame, FSU, PSU, etc., etc., play, turn on ESPN, ABC, or NBC.

But they still get a lot of recognition nationwide. It would be like beating a really high profile four win SEC team.

See- that's the beauty of playing them. They're all hype and history. Shoot, they lost to the same Michigan team we skulldrug last year, and Tulsa.

It looks like we're beefing up our schedule, but in reality we're just playing an overrated opponent that's really not all that good.

Sort of like Michigan in the Gator Bowl.

Plus, if we're ever accused of playing a cream puff schedule, we could always say- "well, we played ND".

consider scheduling us. We have a better chance of winning a National Championship then Notre Dame putting us on their schedule. Seriously. Mississippi State never gets to choose. Notre Dame always chooses and Notre Dame will never choose a Mississippi school. Have they ever?

And that was in the late 70's and 80's- so not the Ole Miss glory years by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, in the past two years they've put the likes of Tulsa, Nevada, Utah and UConn on their schedule. They're independent, so they are having a somewhat difficult time scheduling people.

especially right now because we'd kill em but I still think they have a "we're above you" attitude. Sure was nice to beat the **** out of Michigan though.

Agreed. Stick with the plan of 4 non conference wins. Besides ND would never agree to play in Starkville. It would be a one and done series.

Ole Miss got scheduled when ND was still a great team and UM was still just a little redneck school to beat up on. I doubt ND will schedule any SEC teams in the near future.

We're one year removed from a 5-7 season in which 2 non-conference losses cost is a bowl trip, and now all of the sudden we need to add Notre Dame to the schedule??? Do you people not remember the bitching and moaning (deservedly so) towards LT about NOT scheduling 4 guaranteed wins? It's amazing to me that otherwise rational posters (Todd you're one of my favorites) can become so near sighted after 1 good season. Shave some of that wool. We need 4 patsies OOC and a couple conference wins every single year.

That's with Houston, Alcorn, Memphis, and UAB on the schedule. So basically, our SEC schedule carried us to that 15th spot.

Why would we want to add ND to that? What does adding ND do besides give us a huge hurdle of getting to a New Years Day bowl?

It does absolutely nothing. ND's roster is significantly more talented than us and when they get a coach in there that utilizes that roster, they'll be a great team. It makes no sense to schedule them.

A game in Itta Bena and two in Greenwood (or one in Itta Bena, one in Greenwood, & one in Greenville).

by the way, I'd be for a football matchup against the Irish. It won't take place until at least 2020 though. I think ND's schedule is booked for the rest of the decade.
