Did anyone else notice after the 4th quarter goal line stand, We were snapping the ball with 26 seconds left on the play clock. Why are we not running the clock with a
lead and the game on the line????

it was inexcusable

We gave KY a free minute of game time, at least. They nearly used it to tie the game. Their entire last drive was a gift. Inexcusable.

Because everyone would be bitching if we had milked the clock and gone 3 and out and had to punt out of our own endzone. On your own goal line, you better be running your offense to try to get out of your own endzone and not trying to run clock. Field position and momentum are way more important. Get a first down or two, THEN milk clock because then you can flip the field.

I agree, knuckled headed clock management.

I believe it was against TAMU, we had a drive right before half (they weren't slowing us down at all) but we keep snapping the ball with 15-20 seconds on the play clock (weren't in any type of hurry up). We scored, but left enough time on the clock for TAMU to have a good drive and kick a FG (I believe) as the half expired.

Ding ding ding. Running the ball three times inside our own 5 and letting the play clock run all the way down would have been just like playing prevent defense with 3 minutes left. Mullen did the right thing there.

Can't you try to make first downs AND run the clock down?

EXACTLY. You get your *** outside the 20 and preferrably the 30 before you

start slowing things down. We still had way too much time left to try to burn seconds then. Any number of things can go wrong while you are dicking around the goal line. Mullen was dead on and proved hit right as when we did have to punt Arkansas had a lot further to go. And with only 1 timeout left, they had to try to keep it in their pocket. Still, without Redmond's great play they almost made.

All of that drama would have not been endured were it not for Stone Hands Graham"s muff and cover show....

we got the 1st down, outside of the 20, and CONTINUED to snap the ball with 15-20 seconds on the clock. every play of the drive. hell, after one first down we snapped it with THIRTY seconds on the play clock, if i remember right.

run plays vs pass plays is a different argument. i don't like how often Mullen will go with passes in those situations, i think he has too high an opinion on our passing ability in general, but it's at least defensible as the D is likely selling out against the run. but there's no excuse for gifting the opposing team a free possession when only up a single score. if the refs had screwed up and not run clock for a minute ya'll would be yelling bloody murder, but Mullen makes the same mistake and it's fine??

The lowest the play clock was when we snapped the ball on that entire drive was 11 seconds. Every other snap the clock was over 15 seconds and one time it was at 26. We could easily have burned off another minute of the clock or forced ark to burn their timeouts earlier. I'm all in favor of running your regular plays instead of just running up the gut three times and punting, but take the play clock down to under 5 seconds when you do it.

we also had a chance to force them to use their last timeout before we punted and we did not.
