Corbin after last nights walk-off is giving them an inspirational/motivational speech. Henderson tonight has hit the showers. Hmmm

Wouldn’t say we were outplayed. Only bad play was the triple we gave up that led to the tying run. We played an outfield shift based on the batters spray chart and it didn’t work. Should’ve been a single that turned triple. Other than that had a couple unfortunate bounces that hit the pitcher that would’ve been singles. Let’s get them tomorrow. We play better in elimination games anyway

That was the big hit of the game. If Neff can get through the 8th unscathed, we probably would’ve brought Self in for the 9th and had a good chance to close it out.

That double that turned into a triple was brutal. It just felt like we were going to give it up late. 17 vandy for that bullpen.

If Mangum hadn't got picked off second in 1st Inning we score at least one run during that inning.... defense out of position all night is on Henderson.

They had 4 more hits than us and their bullpen was straight dealing. Guys, we were outplayed and reaching base was a problem past the 5th. Let's hope the mojo returns, but that vandy team can ball and WE are going to have to get a better performance out of our guys if we are going to make it to Omaha. No shame in tipping your cap.

Agreed. Don’t set the the team up for do or die with a 214 hitter

Even with his chart, piss poor call by Henderson in my book.

I just thought it was worth noting. If we come out on fire tomorrow, you get a chance to bring it back up. Henderson's greatest asset is his calm and laid-back demeanor. It might work out...who knows.

Sorry but I respectfully disagree.

You never notice all the times a shift works because it just looks like a routine play. Guys who hit .214 often hit that low of an average because they have tendencies in their charts that get exploited. They try to go the other way / pull or are early / late on certain pitch types or pitch locations and the coaches plan accordingly. We were playing the percentages that had worked against the kid all year.

Obviously it doesn’t work 100% of the time, but even when it doesn’t it’s extremely rare for someone to hit the ball to the exact spot on the field where it can slip through the entire defense. It was extremely bad luck. If he went the other way and hit one in the gap and Mangum couldn’t get there because he was playing him straight up when his chart shows he hits a lot more balls the other way, you’d complain that we should have had a shift on.

I understand how shifts work. Thanks. Answer this, had we not been....

in the the shift and he hits the ball, in the propensity of which you claim. Would it have been a triple?

If by the “propensity” you mean the right center field gap, it absolutely would have been a triple. That dude was fast as **** and that is obviously the gap requiring the much longer throw to third base.

Well, I’m all for breaking down the analytics of baseball. I however think

we could’ve held him to a double. But then again I’m not an HC for the best baseball conference in the country. Not one bit afraid to admit I could be totally wrong. I hope we can punch our ticket tomorrow. HAILSTATE and let’s do this tomorrow!

I was on the 3rd base side. The ball was hit hard. Then it skipped across the outfield turf. Grass that is a double. That slick turf.....no way Rowdy or Mangum can get to it. Just a well hit and placed ball.

I recall the outfielders playing straight up too. No shift.

We are about to Bianco this thing. Good season though.
Hard to Bianco it when we were never favored to even be here, much less to win the super regional on the road. I'm sticking with my prediction of W-L-W.

Even the announcer was questioning the shift, which they did every play just about and gave Vandy all the praise in the world. Even when we were kicking their teeth in.

Yeah, I remember the announcer (not KP) saying we had a staggered shift. The infield was shifted one side, the outfield shifted the opposite side. Shifts only seem to work for teams like LSU, not us. I would rather shade players than full-blown shift. If we played them straight-up they tie in the 9th not walk off. No point in rehashing all this really. It's done and time to refocus
