Torbush is done. He needs to be fired once the plane lands in Starkville. I shudder to think what Paul Johnson and Houston are going to do to this has-been.

What pisses me off is that Mullen hired this guy who was hanging out at some D-III school in the nether reaches of Tennessee, when he COULD have hired someone that had a clue.

I'm not sure that it's so much the scheme per say, since we did play some 4-3 tonight. It's the fact that we tried to play them like we did Jackson State. When we actually blitzed, which was rare, we were able to get some stops.

But the other thing that really concerns me was the attitude of the defense. There was no swagger. And I can understand that a little bit on their part because I can imagine that it's hard to get up when you're playing zone all night and blitzing four times the entire game. We're asking three- four guys to go after the QB against at least five guys at all times. That's just not going to cut it. Bottom line- we got outhit and looked like a bunch of pussies.

i agree torbush absolutely sucked tonight. The only time i saw us blitz we were in a 3-4 and only had 5 guys rushing and put enough pressure that the qb couldn't make the throw, yet we contiuously decided to stay in a base defense and only bring the lineman when everyone knew that us getting pressure was key. Torbush is a wack job and i really wish either he would step down and acknowledge he isn't worth a damn or fire him tomorrow. That was absolutely ridiculous. Anybody could tell our defensive scheme the first series and it never changed.

My theory is that the coaches knew we were outmatched by their offense in the spread so we just tried a different scheme to try to cope. Obviously, it was a miserable failure, though I gues it did make them run around end instead of up the middle where we bunched together. . We are embarrassed by their total yards and many are calling for a head, but I'm not sure a change based on one ****** performance would be best for our program. I do think that Mullen needs to take a more active role in coaching the defense and approving its plans, but I definitely don't see firing a coach now as a good idea. Our players are having a hard enough time figuring out what the hell is going on without throwing that kind of turmoil into the mix.
