Indeed. He has been available and there was zero interest by Tanner and board of trustees. Same with Heupel at Tennessee. The combination of cronyism, state gubmint meddling, overly loyal fanbase, and money coming in no matter what has created a situation that is just stupid difficult to overcome.cause there are no Buddy hires that are that good

This is a university that went from 2 past their primes Hall of Famers to replacing them first with a proven failure as a Head Coach (Muschamp) and second with someone who was never thought of highly enough to be hired as a Coordinator, much less a Head Coach (Beamer). Do the hiring authorities at South Carolina even try to hire a quality Head Football Coach? These last two were lazy hires. Any time you "settle", you are not trying.cause there are no Buddy hires that are that good
And drug our feet. It sure if he was ready and he got snatched from us. James Franklin wasn’t good enough for us. We wouldn’t even consider Kiffin or Mizz coachWe went after Kirby Smart.
Yes, they did. After striking out there, they unbelievably settled for Muschamp. We must have the most screwed up staff of any university. We went after Kirby Smart.
Mike Elko too.Indeed. He has been available and there was zero interest by Tanner and board of trustees. Same with Heupel at Tennessee. No, didn’t forget. Saw how he rebounded at Alabama and then lead FAU to their best stretch of football. Also if you’ve ever heard him speak about life you see a guy who’s learned a little. He was never on SC’s radar to hire and that was stupid.Kiffen had baggage. Seems some of y'all forgot. Raiders > UTen (fans rioted when he left after 1 season)>SoCal (fired after 3 seasons).
Maybe we would hire him now, but not that long ago, no.

I thought So Cal made a mistake too. Since they fired him they have 1 conference championship. His best season there they weren’t eligible for post-season but would have played for it otherwise. Granted that particular season where he was fired it wasn’t going well in conference but no one who followed got them to the level they deemed wasn’t getting them to. He was easy to hate then so people took the tarmac thing to be some sort of celebration. He’s a good coach but that won’t change some opinions.I remember, but imho, I saw a coach grown up when he had successful stints at Bama, then FAU. I thought he kind of rehabilitated his name.
I also dont think his rep was as tarnished as others did. He failed badly at the Raiders. He screwed UT, but for his "dream job". He was still making them better for that one year. The mistake was Southern Cal. He took that over under huge schollie restrictions.
I can see why others disagreed though.
Al Davis called him a liar. He may have redeemed his name, but that was not a good situation. He failed badly at the Raiders.

And Kiffen left UTen with 12 recruiting violations, including the infamous "recruiting hostesses" scandal.
Kiffen was hired at Ole Miss 12/19. We were still slogging through Muschamp and his expensive buyout.![]()
At Alabama, Lane Kiffin may be under more scrutiny as a recruiter than ever (Kevin Scarbinsky)
The NCAA Infractions Committee found that Tennessee committed 12 secondary recruiting violations during Kiffin's one year there as head coach in 2009. He was not sanctioned personally.www.al.com
The timing never worked in our favor to consider Kiffen.
Kiffen had 2 good years at FAU and Ole Miss rolled the dice on a risky hire. If chance given, maybe we would hire him now, but not likely in 2019.
Heupel was a less riskier hire for anyone. When I look at him today, I still can't believe he's the same Josh Heupel who was such a great QB at Sooners. He and Heupel were held up as hires who went into messes much like Beamer, and showed better success, at similar times.

Beamer should give FAU a spin.Don't disagree. He needed some definite career rebuilding.
I dont think he was ever really a candidate here either. He and Heupel were held up as hires who went into messes much like Beamer, and showed better success, at similar times. That was the comparison that set some people off.
I think the rehab stint at Bama was good for him, and the very good work he did at FAU (3 years, 2 conference titles) was what put him back on track as a desirable coach.
The alternate names when we were hiring were Napier and Chadwell on the boards. (I dont think any other candidate was ever really considered though).
Beamer should give FAU a spin.
He should have started at ETSU or similar. If he ever wants to be a head coach again he'll have to start small. He's made enough money so he's got to want it. Maybe he does, maybe not. He doesn't seem too good at it.Honest question. Would you hire Beamer as a HC, even a a small school?
He's about to be in a weird limbo. He cant go back to running a defense or offense for another coach. He doesnt have the coordinator job to fall back on.
So its HC at small school, or.......? Analyst? Retire?
Or commentator.
No one was a serious candidate in 2019 because of the stupid contract given to Muschamp so the powers that be never even considered there needed to be candidates.Al Davis called him a liar. He may have redeemed his name, but that was not a good situation.

No. For the most part guys that get hc jobs at smaller places still hold OC or DC first. Beamer was not an hc candidate anywhere until SC.Honest question. Would you hire Beamer as a HC, even a a small school?
