Too emotional on the court. When he plays against a better PG he goes berserk and tries to prove he's better and our opponents love it.

Nick has his moments....good and bad. His effort is unquestioned, but his decisions on the court can sometimes be baffling. For instance, yesterday’s game in the first half he was on the bench for foul issues, re-enters and is beaten by Jones to the bucket. Rather than just letting him go he fouls. Back to the bench he went.

He did do a better job scoring than in the ole miss game, but he can’t handle the press. Too many poor decisions of when and who to pass to when the trap is set near the mid court corner. Maybe he shouldn’t be our point and be better suited at the 2 spot

Yep, that's a good way to describe him. Another thing is that to be a guy with a shaky jumper, he will take 3-4 20 ft jumpers in pretty much every game as if that's a shot that he knocks down all the time. Most of the time, it ends up being a completely wasted possession whenever he pulls up from that range.

His effort is always there, but you're right that his decision making can just be downright atrocious at times. It's also a little comical at times when he likes to signal to his team to calm down and slow things down, yet more times that not, he's the one that is playing way too fast

Nick is a freak of an athlete, but he doesn't have a natural position on the basketball court.

Combo-guard. Its a thing.

He has the speed of a PG, the footwork to defend either guard position, the ability to get into the paint and finish off the dribble, is very solid from the FT line, and has a good ability to set others up for baskets in many but not all situations.
In the fast break, he is great at pushing the ball ahead and kicking to the open man for assists. In the half court, he(of the team overall) struggles to get anything really started. He can pass well into the post from some angles, but other angles he struggles to make good entry passes. He also rebounds well.

That is a combo guard in every way. Areas of improvement are that he doesnt have a relaible outside shot and he struggles to break the press. Thats really about it- just 2 parts of his game that overall hurt the team due to the team not having enough of either skill to cover up for Nick. As an example to that last comment, Ado doesnt have much offense, but Perry's offense more than covers up for Ado. We dont have others who reliably break the press as it often looks shaky and uncertain when Perry and Carter are breaking the press too.

This board is a damn emotional teenage girl when it comes to the basketball players. 2 months ago, many here were calling for Nick to be benched and saying we are better off without him. Weeks later, many here were declaring Nick as one of the best PGs to play at MSU because of how unselfish and effective he is. Recently, people are calling for him to be benched yet again.
Its the same with Perry, Carter, and Ado- this fanbase is so damn inconsistent and prone to What Have You Done Lately for Me Syndrome from game to game with all these guys.

Re the board's reactions, it is simply a lot of posters do not simply understand the game of basketball. Probably never played peewee.

Yep, and he is the better option at point for offense but his defense is not

good.

This is exactly the reason Molinar is not a starter. Howland is a defense first coach.

What? A shooting guard that can’t shoot? No thanks.

He’s either the starting PG or the back-up PG, one or the other.

Does 'SG' stand for shooting guard of does it stand for scoring guard?
Yes we all(should) know what it means, but the question is an important one. Does it matter if an SG doesnt have a jumper?

There were multiple years where Dwayne Wade didnt even take 50 3pt shots in a season, and multiple years where he made less than 10 shots from deep for the season.
There was a 5 or 6 year long stretch where Wade shot in the mid 20% from deep and didnt make double digit 3pt shots for a couple seasons. One of the seasons he may like 15% from deep.

No I am not comparing Nick to Wade. I am simply citing a well known example where the shooting guard not only survives, but excels in spite of a shaky shot.

Ronnie Brewer(SG/SF) couldnt hit **** from deep in the NBA and didnt try to very often as a result. Played for years.
Tony Allen(PG/SG/SF) barely shot from deep and for good reason.
Andre Miller(PG/SG) might have shot even less often from deep than Tony Allen.
David Nwaba(SG/SF) basically doesnt shoot from deep...maybe averaged one 3pt shot per game for his career?

Your strict definition of positions is an antiquated way to approach the game that belongs in the peach baskets originally used to play the game. There is a reason why fluidity has come to the game- it is effective. Positionless players that can reliably switch on D and be effective thru movement and spacing on O are gold. All Star teams in the NBA are now backcourt and frontcourt. There is no C, PF, SF, SG, PG listing because its antiquated.
Are you a scoring PG? GREAT!
Are you a pick and pop big? GREAT!

A lot of this has been NBA focused, but thats because trends flow from top down.
