I do hope people will show up Saturday, though. I have a feeling Leach is about to pull a typical Leach move, especially with the way the LT game played out. Very reminiscent of how Auburn did us in 2011, after they were asleep and had that come-from-behind win over Utah State.

I expect Saturday to be a near-capacity crowd: Night game between two undefeated P5 teams.

If you take out last season because of the capacity limits, Saturday was our smallest announced crowd since Croom's final home game in 2008. From 2009 to 2019, we had exactly one home game with an announced attendance of less than 50K (Houston 2009, 48,019).

I expect a better crowd this weekend but I feel pretty confident it won't be a packed house. Since Dak graduated we've had very few games with more than 95% capacity.

And I can promise you there weren't 44,669 fans inside that stadium. At most there were 31,412.

That was definitely the most sparse I have seen the east side look in a long time. I was kind of shocked. I didn't expect a huge crowd, but did think it would be better than that. I thought the area around me was about normal for that type game.

Not sure what you would consider "near capacity" but I don't think it will be anywhere close. They never sold anywhere near all season tickets and if they do actual turnstile count instead of tickets sold it won' be close

It looked small on tv, but I have a hard time believing there were more people there on Saturday then the 2019 Abilene Christian game. I was at that game and that is the smallest game I have ever attended and that includes spring games

Bottom line is two things: 1: Mississippi has just about the worst COVID outbreak in the entire world right now. If you think that didn't hurt attendance you aren't thinking straight. 2: Our football team was widely expected not to be very good. I'm not sure it will be much better this weekend. #1 is showing very early signs of easing (although it is still very bad), but #2 was CONFIRMED.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting older, but I don't remember sitting out there burning up in the September sun very much in the old days. Seemed like this all came around about 10 years ago when the SEC Network got here.

The day game data point isnt about overall falling attendance. Its a factor in why some hit lower capacities in comparison to others on this particular weekend. It was a hurdle some schools faced that others didnt.

No, I think you're wrong. You had the 11:30 JP game, then you had the 2:30 CBS game, and that usually didn't start until 3-4 weeks into the season.

I just went and looked at 2005, 2006 and 2007 - all the September games were at night unless they were JP.

September is the key word here, I figured you missed that part, you miss a lot of key details and certainly will never admit that you were wrong.

$160 per ticket to sit way up there? Damn that is steep.
If you just take a kid for a day experience, thats closing in on $500 for the day once food for the day, parking, gas, and some souvenir is added in.

Way back in the day, before lights and TV, games kicked off at 1:30pm. Sometime in the mid 80s, State installed lights. From that point forward, our schedule was 6pm kickoffs for September games. 1:30pm kick offs for October and later games. I am referencing games in Starkville and Tuscaloosa. I didn't go to Jackson games. However, it seems I remember we played Navy at night early in the season in Jackson in the early 80s. We may have played one game a year on TV in the 80s.

I recall the TBS/JP/Lincoln 11:30am games begining in 1986. State played Tennessee at Knoxville. I believe later that year we played OM on TBS.

I recall TV really picking up and effecting game times around 1990. We played Tennessee at home in the season opener in 1990 at 11:30am. It was hot and nobody showed. Maybe 20K. THen a year later we had a big September game vs Texas on TV and it was mid day, hot as hell. I believe we had around 30K. Then ESPN with their Thursday night games. ....and yall should be old enough to know the rest of the history.

Dude, almost ALL games used to start at 1:30. As I said, you aren't very old.
