I find the early season AP rankings to be more entertaining than insightful...not just in high school. There are far fewer guys like Edgy and Soucie than there are people who can vote...And the smaller classes are somewhat local expertise...you know the Northwest Upstate champ will be real good in 1A, but which team...
That said, you see it at all levels...Team A, despite beating Team B, remains higher ranked...SHG & Chatham Glenwood would be that example this year. Maybe some voters thought SHG lost on the road, making a 3 or 4 point game even on a neutral field...Ohio State or Alabama loses but remains higher ranked...North Dakota State is no. 1 every off-season...Meanwhile Texas starts decently ranked every year and then tanks, it seems...
