I’ll start with Colonial Heights. CH was winless on the season. Only scoring a meaningless touchdown in each of their three games. Last night, they beat the socks off of a Southampton team that beat a pretty darn good Petersburg team last week. Where did that come from?

Stone Bridge kept their game against mighty Maryland team, Quince Orchard respectable. A loss for sure, but some were saying they would lose by 40+.

Saddened to see once prominent Galax having to forfeit their second game in a row.

Glad to see Coach Cherbin and Rocktown get the win over Charlottesville. Coach C coached at C’ville for a number of years and probably was deserving of the head coach job when he got passed over.

The ratings for 4B will be interesting when they come out. Caroline will probably be at or near the top by my rough calculations. Of course, with so few games in the books, a lot will change.

I tuned into the Grundy at Twin Valley game for a few minutes last night. There is a lighting pole directly in front of the camera. Assuming it’s mounted on their press booth, then it also is blocking the view of anyone in the press booth. I had to chuckle. It reminded me of the Bob Uecker commercial when he was given free seats…, in the nose bleed section. But, this is the final year for Twin Valley, so I’m sure they just deal with it and move on.

The Churchland Truckers spanked Henrico by 65, and Alexandria City gave JR Lewis 71 points to remember them by.

As always, there are several teams around the state that have traditionally been down but are off to a great start. Likewise, there are several perennial top teams that are struggling. Who would ever expected to see a Salem team sitting at 0-4? King George, which really wasn’t unexpected, sitting at 0-3, but only scoring 6 points total in those three games. Or Eastern View? 1-3, with that win coming last night against Liberty-Bealton by only one point, 7-6. On the other side of that are teams like Meadowbrook starting the season 4-0. For those that may not recall, years ago Meadowbrook was a powerhouse. If you could beat Meadowbrook, you were considered a legitiment playoff contender. But, when it turned the other way, Meadowbrook got bad, really bad. From 2018 through 2023 they one only one game.

Now it’s your turn. What have you seen this week that made you raise an eyebrow?

I was down your way Dinwiddie this week. We went to Virginia Beach and we stopped at the country store with the rocking chairs. Such a quaint little place

TJ at one point in the first half was down 20-7. Hopewell took the opening kick off back, then TJ threw a pick-six on their first offensive possession. It was 13-0 in the blink of an eye. But those young men didn't flinch, and by halftime, TJ was leading 22-20 and never looked back. The young men stayed composed and began to dominate the rest of the game. I think this is what Coach Harris meant when he talked about wanting his guys to face adversity during the regular season.

The way Woodbridge lost in OT. N. Stafford scored first, Woodbridge gets the ball, first play the snap bounces off the qb’s fingers, ricochets off the rb right into the defenders’ hands. Game over.

Yes I was at this game. TJ come out the second half and ran the game probably 30 times right at hopewell the running back Ferguson is tough. Hopewell problem is they don't have a quarterback. The kid playing Qb was a lineman last year and he was just out of wack. Just watching him you can tell he's not confident and he thew 2 or 3 interceptions. In the second half i don't think he had one completions. If Hopewell doesn't make a qb change they may not win another game. I feel bad for the kid because he's trying but qb is not for him. The coaches have to make a decision for the rest of the team they also looked very frustrated also. Good luck hats off to tj.

But for sure, they are in struggle mode this season.

Another thing Coldcold. Off the topic a little. I was born and raised in Petersburg and have lived in Dinwiddie my entire life, so rivalry with Hopewell is firmly ingrained in my DNA. But I love that antique, throwback stadium. My sister told me, “the visitors side is dangerous. They need railings so nobody falls off the ends!” I told her “sis, they want us to fall off. It’s Hopewell!”
Last year just before the game started the sprinklers on the visiting team sideline came on. None others anywhere else, just at our bench area. Do you really think this was an accident?🧐🤨🤔

The game that should have been, that wasn't... After last year's Class 6 playoff kerfuffle, James Madison scheduled Hayfield to settle it on the field. Subsequently, the cast that made Hayfield a powerhouse left.

Result Friday night was James Madison 49 Hayfield 0 against the remnants of a team.

I have sympathy for the kids, but the adults shoulder the blame. When you “circumvent the rules to win at all cost”, isn’t that just a great example to set for the kids?

Henrico losing 65-0 to Churchland. Have to feel bad for Coach Holmes. Varina, HSHS, and even TJ and Armstrong now taking all of your more talented players. After having a successful finish to last year and some excitement around the program, have to wonder why none of it carried over to this year.

It’s not widely known, but they lost their starting QB before the season. Disciplinary reasons. He was pretty darn good and a previous starter. Coach Irby is just trying to keep the boat bailed out and not sinking until he can plug the holes.

Shades of Navy might know more, but I think they lost another good player or two to transfers?

But for sure, they are in struggle mode this season.

Yes I'm a hopewell alumni and former player. Yes they lost some kids to transfer but they've got some other guys who can play qb. Time will tell.

TJ has no Henrico players on its roster.

Down here in Hogoheegee Land, Northwood being 3-0 is a big surprise.

Big game with Chilhowie coming up this Friday in Saltville.
