The top 10 teams in the state of Illinois entering week seven regardless of class. Note: Close losses to other highly regarded teams can actually improve a teams standing. Schedule strength, margin of victory, and reputation of the program (team history), and the conference affiliation is also considered. This is why a team like Aurora West (6-0) can be rated below a team with three losses. Here goes...
#1 Loyola (6-0) LW #3... dominate St. Rita 35-3, Rita had been averaging 41 ppg prior. Ramblers have surrendered just 24 points in previous three games. Week 9 showdown with BR awaits.
#2 Homewood-Flossmoor (6-0) LW #1... Vikings use Tyrice Richie at WR and RB, and he explodes with over 200 yards of total offense in the 48-0 rout of Sandburg. Just when you thought the HF offense couldn't get any more dangerous.
#3 Brother Rice (6-0) LW #2... emotional 49-42 win over MC one of the most exciting games to watch in recent memory. Resilient Crusaders offense averaging 45 ppg. Really impressed with the level of play from both teams.
#4 East St. Louis (6-0) LW #5... the Flyers end Edwardsville's 30 game conference winning streak, scoring two defensive TDs in their 20-10 close shave with the Tigers. Eddy jumped out to a 10-0 first qr. lead, but couldn't hang on. Both defenses dominated. ESL will be the favorite in 7a.
#5 Neuqua Valley (6-0) LW #4... Wildcats knock off previously unbeaten Naperville North 35-20, putting the Huskies away with a strong 4th qr. Only team standing in the way of Neuqua's first DVC title is Glenbard North in week 9.
#6 Lincoln-Way East (5-1) LW #6... the Griffins pound Andrew 49-7. Bradley Kentucky Bourbon -aye (6-0) will host LWE week 8.
#7 Prairie Ridge (6-0) LW #7... state's top class 6a team dismantles McHenry 62-6. The Wolves are closing in on a #1 seed, outscoring opponents 45-11.
#8 Edwardsville (5-1) LW unranked... the Tigers defense was outstanding against explosive ESL, forcing 2 first qr, turnovers (giving them an early 10-0 lead). The offense never got untracked, yet they trailed just 14-10 late in the 4th qr. Watch out for Edwardsville in 7a.
#9 Cary Grove (5-1) LW #8... the Fox Valley sure has two great teams, and the Trojans hold serve with PR by ripping Dundee-Crown 50-13. Looks like they will finish at 8-1 and a high seed in 6a.
#10 Mt. Carmel (3-3) LW #9... if you don't think MC is one of the top 10 teams in Illinois, just watch the replay (Brother Rice TV) of their close 49-42 loss at BR. QB (Thomas) is virtually unstoppable and a difference maker going forward.
