We needed to go 1-1 last week and we went 1-1. We currently sit at 89th in the RPI, 8 spots better than this time last week.
A huge opportunity at home this week with Q1 Alabama coming to the Hump. Its not quite in the "must win" category, but it would be huge. We absolutely cannot fall to Ole Miss at home Saturday. 1-1 this week is okay, but it has to be beat Ole Miss, lose to Alabama. If we beat Alabama, we have to go 2-0 this week. A win over Alabama is likely worth 17-20 spots in the NET. Its important for us to get to the top 70 ASAP in order to make a serious run at the top 40, which is where teams are typically safely in the tournament.
We are 2-1 in the SEC right now. If we were to beat Alabama and Ole Miss, that would put us at 4-1 and around 68th in the NET. With 7 weeks left in the season, we would only need to move up about 4 spots a week, which is very doable.
You'll notice this year that there are just a few mid-majors that have spots in the field. The SEC will likely be a 10-11 bid field just for this reason alone. Right now we are tied for third in the SEC. While I think we need to go 12-6 to feel good. An 11-7 team that is in the top half of the SEC has a chance.
