Just wanted to welcome Kenny Payne as UofL's new coach. I've had questions about him being our new coach but, like every other UofL coach, I hope he succeeds at the highest level. I never wish for the failure of any of our coaches/sports and Payne will get his chance to prove what he is made of.

Welcome back to the Ville, Coach Payne!

. He is an alum (championship) that is going to give his all and represent that name across the uniform and will demand it from his players. Never understood why anyone could not be on board with this.

I've stated my concerns/questions about Payne in other threads, and I can see why some might not have been fully on board with his hire. I also understand the excitement from those that did want Payne here.

But I've always also said that if Payne was the guy that I would support him fully like every other UofL coach.

LOL yall almost got a Holtman and the only serious option was Cronin ehh. If it came to those choices i would've went a cheaper safer route Scotty.

lol, the Payne Train. i like it.

we were at the bottom of every offensive category. let's get the Train rolling with a good point guard, 3 point shooters, and a big man. 5 roster spots available?

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on where land on this hire,I do believe Payne is the only guy that can unite the base the most outside of a few homerun hires that we have no chance at.

Who’s “yall”? Oh, I guess you mean all Cardinal fans who - unlike you - were planning on continuing to support the program whoever was hired, instead of throwing a hissy fit if it wasn’t their choice.

I'm also really curious about what offense and defense style Payne will implement. I know it'll be a while before we see it in action.

Because I heard it from you, not the man himself. I know he will in his acceptance speech but not a peep when everyone knew he was a candidate. Questions like “does he even want the job”

This is my biggest concern. Did he take the job because he really wanted it or did he take it because he was being pushed by Eaves, Beard, Junior, and Houston among others. Hopefully he took it because he really wanted it.

Of course he wanted it!
He’s a grown a$$ man who makes his own decisions.
It’s not like he was desperate for a job.

He isn’t a puppet. He is smarting than people are giving him credit for. Being a very good assistant gave him the ability to be patient. That took some serious discipline to pass on lower level jobs. Tells me his ego isn’t too big. He is comfortable with who he is.

I think it is great. I have no idea if it will work but he deserves a shot. Time to support him. The fanbase support will play a role in his success or failure.

Where did I say I wasn't supporting him ? I'm supporting as much as anyone. I want him to kill it here. I'm a Louisville fan why wouldn't I want him to win. ?

Fact is a lot of people were pushing him into this job. You have no clue if that played a roll in him taking the job or not..

Didn't Felton also coach as an assistant at uk? I would expect to see defensively what we saw at uk.
Those were some really good defensive teams over the last 10 years or so.

You don't know that, that's just your opinion which is no better than mine..
I do know thats a 55yr old man isn”t easily swayed by others opinions or wants when it’s not in the best interest of him and his family! Especially one who spent a great deal of his life to make the best life for his family! He already had a great amount of respect from his peers on all levels of basketball and as a man!
Why would any grown man in their right mind risk all of that from peer pressure?
It makes no sense!

With Payne being a assistant coach for Tom Thibodeau who is known in the NBA as one of the best defensive coaches that will also have a good Influence on his defense

Gotta be a good chance Milt Wagner is on the staff right??

That would put us in drivers seat for his grandson and #1 overall recruit DJ Wagner.
That might depend on what the NCAA does to Louisville, I couldn’t see a probable one and done play for a team who might be ineligible for the tournament or maybe missing it,

Never said you wouldn’t support him. You don’t know if their encouragement played a role either. It doesn’t matter if it did or didn’t. He is going to be the coach. His decision.

I think there will be no middle he is going to be wildly successful or a disaster.

I liked him as a player, and I don't care about his UK connection... A job is a job in this business. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. I'm hopeful he can keep our best current players from transferring and then add some good players through the portal. I'm also hopeful he can get in with some top 2023 recruits.

Agree 100%. Coaches are mercenaries, and we need to stop being all precious about them. Kenny won all those games, and he's the guy leading the program, so by extension he has all my hope & support.
