Well, early one pitching looks solid. Hitting looks mediocre. Really

struggled yesterday against their ace and struggling tonight against their number 4 starter.

Still would like to see more power out of this lineup, but it is what it is. It'll pick up some as the weather gets warmer. I think Portland has pitched pretty well this weekend all things considered.

In our defense, you are right. They do pitch it pretty well and we knew that

coming into the weekend.

WTF? We scored 31 runs on one of the top 10 pitching staffs in ERA last year.

They also only went 27-25 and we did struggle mightily against two of their 4

starters.

You're nuts. This is a legit national title caliber squad.

We won't know **** until 4 weeks into league play. I remember an undefeated ranked number 1 MSU team a few years back that tanked. I love what I've seen so far but after 4 games against Portland we do not have a clue

That was one of the worst number one MSU teams of all time

They played tight, and you just knew that they were going to fall apart once they lost that first game. That might have been the team that lost to La Tech with Mike Valentine left to die on the mound and blow a big lead.

I remember that La Tech game. We got the first 2 outs in the 9th then they scored like 7 runs to beat us. All with 2 outs. It was unreal and that team never got over that. I've never seen a comeback like that.

This early in a season pitching is usually a good bit ahead of hitting. So I think averaging 7.75 runs per game so far isn't that bad against a team that was top ten nationally in ERA last year after losing only 4 pitchers from last years squad. I think hitting will pick up the more we play at least to an extent. I just hope their pitching ends up being on par with what they did last year. I'll definitely be watching how their pitchers do in upcoming games to help gauge where we are. But likely, we won't really know for several more weeks

It was unreal. There's a great thread in SP remembers about the deck that collapsed. It's worth a read if you can find it.

Watched the doubleheader today. A few observations.
- Graveman is still recovering but he's a battler and seemed to always make a pitch when he needed it
- We have a solid defensive squad, infield and outfield....making plays look routine and turning alot of double plays
- Frazier is really really good. Effortless play at SS and hitting the ball to all fields.
- CT Bradford has alot of power for a little guy, but seems to try to show it too much.
- We played practically the whole team in the two games today, so getting into an offensive rhythm would be tough
- It was a cold *** day, probably 40 deg at the end of game two with a swirling breeze
- Renfroe looks like he is trying too hard, but did relax in Game 2 and had 2 nice hits as well as hauling in a drive into the RF gap.
- Porter did not look like he had a good swing
- Rea did not play until the 8th inning of the second game and started a spectacuar 3-5-3 double play to end the game
- While we have depth galore, there is a clear dropoff with Britton and Frost playing the infield. Routine plays looked harder and some ground balls seem to squirt through.
- The Canadian kid, Robson, is fast as hell, but watches too many strikes go by. Struck out looking at least twice and maybe a third time.
- Pollorena looked good in both games
- Bracewell looked dominant in limited use
- Will Cox's performance wasn't very good. Nice defensive plays got him out of 2 of his 3 innings.

For what its worth, the defense looked extremely good with depth too. If our pitching is as good as expected, this team will be very very good even if the hitting is average by SEC standards.
