Any good pitcher will tell you that a good fastball will make your other pitches effective, as well. Miss a lot with your fastball (see Taylor Stark earlier in the game), guys are gonna hit all over you because you aren't keeping them honest with a hard, low fastball in the zone... or you will walk them. Fitts can throw fastballs with movement in the low 90s low for strikes, and has a decent sinker that is a good complement. Most major league pitchers set up their breaking balls and changeups with fastballs.
