simmered down two quarts of Apple cider with cinnamon sticks this am to produce. Half quart of deliciousness.

Go Time:

Grab a Cocktail stirring glass and dump in a scoop of ice

meanwhile chill down a rocks glass with a clear ice cube in the freezer.

dashes of Black Walnut Bitters
dashes of Old Fashioned Bitters
1/ 2 ounce Potter county Maple syrup
1 ounce cider reduction
3 ounces Basil Hayden Dark Rye

stir, smile, stir. Grab your strainer and pour.

Garnish with a couple of Luxardo cherries.

Relax, watch the Steelers, let the cosmic love you have gathered on your path flow outward and inward. Drink several.

Enjoy your Sunday Kids.

Anymore I don’t typically have the patience to make my own whiskey cocktails - I will on occasion but have really been into the pre-made stuff like On The Rocks and Bulleit. Both do really good Manhattans but Bulleit’s Old Fashioned is better. They also do a Whiskey Sour that is perfect but even better with a bit of Vermont maple syrup.

I like your recipe though - will give it a try!

Mezcal Negroni. Just sub a nice joven for the gin. I like to make mine (both gin- and mezcal-based) a touch heavier on the base spirit than the commonly cited 1-1-1 mix. Splurge for the Campano Antica vermouth.

Thank me anytime.

I’ve actually played with adding a dash of nutty liqueur like DiSaronno or Frangelico to my Negronis and it’s a nice little change.

I just picked up both toasted almond and walnut bitters, and both boost the flavors over standard bitters.

Have always been a Scotch man but for some pure drinkability I would always go with Vodka Tonic and a Twist of Lime. Now with Tangueray it's just easier to get the same but even better taste.

Very nice. Here is the fall cocktail list from one of our local restaurants. I enjoyed the Nightmare on Bourbon Street and the Apple Butter Old Fashioned. Deliciousness!

Smoked bourbon old fashioned. I use apple wood chips and smoke about 2 cups of Bulleit bourbon in a glass baking dish. Takes about an hour.

Save the bourbon in a glass decanter. Make a standard bourbon old fashioned.

There are smokers you can purchase to make single serving drinks but i prefer this way.

Holds up pretty well.

LKSL:

Pass the gin:

Parks And Recreation Vodka GIF

Also, driving to Vermont last weekend and near Saratoga about a dozen brightly colored Jag coupes (newer, not sure which model) all merged from a rest stop. Some kind of club I guess.

What temp did you smoke the bourbon?

Good question-not sure

i placed the chips on aluminum foil on a cookie sheet, put the bourbon in a glass dish in the middle of the cookie sheet, lit ithe chips to get the smoke going and tented the whole thing with aluminum foil with a small hole to allow just a small amount of smoke to escape.

I did the whole thing on my patio out back and checked on it regularly.

2 oz mezcal
1 oz lime juice
drop of agave nectar
4oz of ginger beer

My daughter bought me the full Smokeshow kit last year for my bday. A tiny amount of chips goes a long way, and your drink is smoked in 30 seconds. Might not be as good in the end, but convenient.

Just lying in the pool here in SoFlo with.the Eagles bye week drinking a cold Kona Big Wave listening to yacht rock radio and classic rewind on Sirius. Probably have a old fashioned tonight for happy hour
Sounds good.
I'm partial to SOMA FM's Underground 80's station, Indie Station and Groove salad.
It's a Reposado Tequila and Spiced Apple cider for me.

So having just knocked off for the day, and with Mrs. A heading into the backyard barrel sauna, I've just poured myself my Huckleberry Manhattan (basically, 4 parts bourbon, 1 part homemade huckleberry syrup, 2 dashes bitters, served straight up).

But as far as old fashioneds go (which I've had a few over the last month)...
1. I start with a simple syrup made by cutting (1:1) bourbon barrel maple syrup procured from Wade's Mill. Wade's Mill is a neat little stop off the beaten path in the Shenandoah, which has a very old and still functioning grain mill. Cool fact: the mechanical apparatus for the milling operation is US Patent number...3!!!
2. I mull 1 oz of said syrup with an orange slice, 2 dashes bitters, and an appropriate heavy syrup cherry (with just the syrup from the bartending spoon used to pull it from the jar).
3. Add 2 oz bourbon and stir.
4. Add ice and stir some more.
5. Repeat as necessary.

Finally, my other little spirit of choice these days is a local product: Courage and Conviction single malt whiskey, from the Virginia Distilling Company in Lovingston, Virginia south of Charlottesville. A very nice product with a strong malty invocation, but not unnecessarily complicated on the back end as I find many scotches to be. They distill at ambient temperature, with all of its fluctuations, which enables them to crank out product surprisingly quickly.

I whipped up a old fashioned from Backbone Uncut Bourbon with black walnut bitters and a splash of crème de cacao then smoked it with bourbon barrel chips. It’s holding its own. This bourbon is not my favorite, but sometimes I like to buy from the reps peddling stuff at my local Binny’s.

Why do you add so much sugar to your otherwise impressive cocktails?

I don’t consider it a lot. On the old fashioned side it’s not like I’m adding a cube of it to the muddling process in the traditional manner.

as to the Manhattan, again 4:1 is no sweeter than a traditional 2:1 with sweet vermouth and a cherry.

either way, if I want something drier, it’s neat courage and conviction or yellow spot

BTW i just polished off a bottle of Penelope Wheated bourbon a couple of weeks ago.

I had planned on using it for Old Fashioneds this fall but....then the middle of the football season happened and....it didn't stand a chance to make it all the way through. :(
