I thought Petal might ride the high of the new stadium to victory, I was wrong. Will say this though, Brassel aint all that. In my opinion Kendrick market is faster, quicker, and he dont show his ***. Petal had no answer for him and he ran the same play over and over again.
SP defense is awesome against the run, Kinda like joe lee's D though, as soon as somebody figures out how to beat the rush they are suspect to the pass.

not sure how good Hattiesburg is but Singleton was electric.I'll bet ole Bobby Hall dumped a load in his pants when Singleton was rolling around lame in the enzone grabbing his leg after about a 90 yard return when several people had the angle on him and he just blew them away. It thankfully was only cramps but it was an anxious moment.

As an SP native, let me say that you are talking crazy.

Kendrick Market is a wonderful player who may be able to play D1. He had a better game than Brassell LAST NIGHT, but he isn't a better prospect or player than Brassell. And while Market had a good night, I think you are confusing some of Griffin's runs with Market's.

Griffin was the story of the night. He went off in the second half after SP wore Petal down.

And the comment about SP being suspect to the pass is down right ignorant. Did you watch the state championship game last year? SP has one of the better secondaries in the south. Antonio Conner, Nick Brassll, Kendrick Market, Al Hentz, etc comprise MS's best secondary.

I understand your need to make Market out to be a better player/prospect than Brassell, but leave dumb comments like those to jilted recruiting gurus.

This really makes YOUR opinion so much more valid than his OPINION!
The point is...he made some pretty strong comments based on seeing one game.

I see these players in several practices and games per year.

Therefore, I have a much larger body of work to base my opinion on.

Just like I think SouthPanolaDawg's opinion of SP football is more valid than some random poster who saw one game.

Can you really not find anything better to do than watching high school football practice? Does your life really suck that bad?

Their coach said he only had 5 players who had ever even played in a game before. I don't understand how a 6A football program can have so little experience coming back. Next week's Laurel-Hattiesburg game is shaping up to be a cripple fight between two once proud programs.

They had had a lot of mediocre seasons before then and they've been nothing but mediocre since. But for that one year, they were a hell of a football team. Coached by one of my favorite former Bulldogs, Milton Smith.

I love playing golf nearly more than anything else on earth but between my job, marriage, and a baby on the way, I think I'll be lucky to find time to play twice the rest of this year. I don't know how some people seem to have so much free time on their hands, but more to power to 'em I guess.

How do you go to high school football practices and not feel like a total creep?

I never said I went to every practice, but I have seen a practice or two over the last few years. And I've seen said players in games over the last few years.

And if you think watching actual football preseason is a waste of time, how would you qualify your time spent posting about football on a message board?

And for bulldogka, I'd like to think you would watch at least more than one MSU game before declaring McPHee or some other star a "not all that".

In the game I watched last night, #1 lined up at QB several times, every time he did this he basically took the snap and ran to the right usually resulting in a TD or long gain.
#2 ran the ball several times and made some great runs, but on my opinion #1 looked much more the athelete.
Now I did not count the number of pass attempts petal made, but on every attempt someone was open, and I mean WIDE open. SP's whole def. scheme is to bring everybody, so they just overwhelm the blocking thus disrupting any chance of a play developing. My point about being suspect to the pass is based on this. Good blocking and Quick strike plays could be there downfall.
Now #11 is not nearly as good as he thinks he is, and from what I saw in this game he really isnt that big a contributor except on kick returns and reverses or sweeps because #5 cant throw the ball.

You are right... going to high school football practices is very creepy. What kind of a loser goes towatch a high school football team practice if you don'thave a kid on the team? That is more patheticthan constantly posting messages oncollege rival teams message board.

Was the best player on the field last night. Kid is a beast and he may be better than the Parker kid who played RB last year. I cant believe that nobody has offered Griffin. As for #11 Brassell he had a case of fumbleitis, he is a great athlete, but may be best used in the secondary on the next level. #1 Market was a good shifty player who made good runs but wont play RB in college and I dont know if he is big or good enough to play corner on the next level. #12 the Soph Connor is as impressive of a looking sophomore I have seen. His TD run in the 4th quarter looked as if he was shot out of a cannon.

Griffin has 0 shot at qualifying. He will be at NWCC next year but you are right he is an absolute stud.

It was poor coaching by Lance Pogue-Fulmer. Petal kept running the same 4 WR set with 3 overloaded to the wide side of the field and 1 iso'd in man to the weak side. Pogue never gave our weak side CB any S help, so they had the slant open all night. Either Pogue didn't give a damn or couldn't see it, because he NEVER adjusted. We should have gone to a nickel to give us an extra S to stop that play. It was also poor technique by our CBs. They kept giving too much cushion and letting the iso'd WR get inside of them instead of getting inside the WR and taking away the slant, forcing the WR to the outside. Either way, poor coaching. Pogue wins in spite of himself.

Either way you look at it, it is just weird that someone would actually go hang out at a high school football practice. I would hate to ever know that my life had reached a point where I was hanging out watching a bunch of 15-17 year olds practice football

I've been critical of Pogue in certain instances as well, but not as critical as you, which I understand. We were spoiled with Willis Wright's defense. I was not happy withPogue's play calling in the final minutes of the state championship loss to Meridian. And I was disappointed that hekept sending the dogs as opposed to adjusting at the half and containing Brunetti against MUS last year, but he redeemed himself to me after that game.

Reading your post above though makes it sound like Petal was in the game. We shut them out. Therefore I'm not going to ***** about our defense. Would they beeven better under Wright? Probably. However its hard to ***** about a shutout on the road in south MS.

Next week we'll face a spread offense when we travel to Colquitt Georgia to take on Rush PropstofHoover fame. I have a feeling the strong pass rushwe showed against Petal was in prep for thisgame in Georgia. In related news, Colquittwas#5 in Georgia 5Apreseason, but lost to 2A's #9 Cook this weekend. Colquitt had 429 yards of offense, but 130 yards on 18 penalties doomed them.
