It's really you that doesn't understand the significance of them. They are perfect revenue machines for counties. Their equipment life cycles are about 5 years, so the ad valorem taxes collected from them stays high. It doesn't decrease as it ages. It's huge revenue for a poor state, without stressing schools or roads with a large influx of people. No, it's not a lot of jobs, but it's incredible tax revenue for counties that desperately need it to maintain roads and bridges, and make their counties better. For example, Lauderdale county will collect $50 MM a year from their data center. Their entire county budget is $50 MM a year and that one tax payer will cover their budget. Lauderdale county schools will receive $50 MM a year. That's huge revenue for the schools. The city of Meridian will receive $50 MM a year. Now they'll probably buy unicorn rides and Bigfoot tours with it, but it's still huge revenue for them. Also, explain how they're a "huge drain on local resources".15 jobs.
I don't get the love that's being thrown for all of these big server farms. They make a great headline, especially for politicians that don't understand anything about technology, but once the existing infrastructure is built, they don't really create sustaining jobs, at least not to a level to justify the tax incentives they're getting to build them. There's no storefront, so there's no sales tax revenue. They're also a huge drain on local resources.
Data farms can be a huge drain on local water systems, I wonder if the county has planned for it’s consumption. It's really you that doesn't understand the significance of them. They have. As has power for it. All of those details were worked out with funding before it's ever publicly announced. That project has been in the works for over a year before announcement. Companies don't make $10 B - $20 B investments in an area and not pay attention to every detail.Data farms can be a huge drain on local water systems, I wonder if the county has planned for it’s consumption.
I dunno man, have you seen some of those folks??Now, if the folks making the decisions on locating these assets wanted to live in Mississippi and run the business from Mississippi, that would be something
