Mallett staying and Snead going? In what bizarro world does this make any sense?

thereby making Snead look worse and probably have him fall completely off the board next season. Now he can be a 4th round pick to someone, learn the ropes with no pressure as a backup, and maybe develop into a solid starter one day.

unless he found out otherwise..

I've never understood someone staying in college while turning down immediate millions....

wasn't it roy williams at texas who did that a couple of years back?

the only logical explanation is that the alumni with bundles of cash matched the nfl signing bonus...

mallett holding off while snead stays in makes no sense

That's your real reason. Mallet has all of his receivers and RBs coming back. He does lose a few on the OL, but that's it. Snead loses both his top playmakers AND the interior of the OL. Mallet is in much better position to succeed next year than Snead would have been.

I agree with you about this. Look at Aaron Rodgers. He hung around behind Favre and developed into one of the best NFL QB's in the league.

Regardless of my bias, I do believe that Petrino would do a better job of developing a QB than Nutt.

since Mallet was just a So. He also didn't have the greatest bowl performance in the world either.

I think Snead sees the depth chart, what happened this year before Nutt realized that McCluster was on the roster, and the fact that he appears to be regressing under their current staff as reasons to leave. Heck, some people are saying that it's going to be an "open competition" between him and Nathan Stanley. This may be his best time to leave and make it in the NFL. Fourth round is better than regressing further, losing your starting job and then maybe signing as a FA.

And I do think Snead has some pretty good ability, but he also needs some coaching. If he gets that, he could be pretty decent. I don't think that whoever drafts him is going to expect him to come in right away and be the starter, anyway. Snead is a better QB prospect right now to me than Tebow or McCoy at the very least as far as the NFL is concerned.

Probably so, but if Hodge, McCluster, and the OL were all returning, Snead would be coming back. Likewise, if Mallett was losing his primary WRs, his best running back, and a good chunk of his OL, he's probably be gone.

It's hard to improve your draft status when you lose your supporting cast.

I agree, I don't really think Snead had much of a choice. Not sure this was a " do or die situation" for Snead but it was his best opportunity to solidify himself as an NFL QB. We all know he didn't do that, so now he has to pretty much roll the dice and deal with whatever opportunity (if any) comes his way. I did expect Mallet to declare though.

Losing his playmakers is a reason to go pro, and not getting good QB coaching is a reason to go pro. Saying it's strictly the playmakers leaving is just wishful thinking on your part because playmakers come and go, but you're stuck with Nutt for a while.

here. I'd take Nutt's record at UArk and UM. Edited to add: Next year they will be down a bit...but still probably win 6-7 games. I hope it's worse frankly.

and hope that he signs a Matt Jones/Darren McFadden type stud to bring you back.

Now, it's up to you, the Ole Miss fan, to decide if that is good enough for you. However, due to your ignorant sense of superiority and homerism (generally across the fanbase), you will probably get pissed off much like the hillbillies did.
