<span class="pp"></span>Ole Miss is one of four schools in the BCS system that do not suspend an athlete after a second positive test for the use of illegal or banned NCAA substances, the website Fanhouse reported in December 2010

"I don't know," said Bjork when asked if the new policy will be toughened. "Every situation is unique. What I want to do is learn more from our trainers and coaches and understand what has happened in the past and how we can address it moving ahead."

There's your WTF of the day.</p>

mind on this drug policy stuff. If its good enough for 98% of the teams in Division I then it should be good enough for Ole Miss but I guess they are unique.

I'm perfectly fine with that and booze. Don't care if the players use either of those.

Roids and smack? Test away.

have to say it is lame not to just follow the same damn policy everyone else does? What kind of message does that send? It tells me you have a problem<div>and you want flexibility in dealing with it. One of the biggest problems Ole Miss has is the breakdown in discipline over the past few years, this is an opportunity to</div><div>start addressing that problem, don't 17 it up.</div>

Being an ahtlete and full time student is pretty taxing. Add in being a full time drug user and I think it's too much to be able to perform at your best as an athelete and student. You just have to look at examples of teams like Florida lately where drug use was apparantly rampant to see the effect.

Every once in while drug use probably not a big deal. And there is always the anecdotal "athelete was a physical freak and smoked every day" but I think those guys are more of an anomale than anything. If I were a coach I'd like to know as much as I could about my players behavior. That big salary is a lot of responsibility.</p>

We'll be the last state to ever legalize that, if it ever is.

It's the local communities trying to nickel and dime the citizens that have enacted harsh penalties.

I am surprised the all knowing, all caring, fairness matters above all else NCAA hasn't mandated a policy that all schools have to follow instead of allowing each school to set their own policy.

...in 16 states & D.C., it's legal to use pot for medical purposes...

Notice how almost all these states legalized their medical marijuana through state ballot Propositions.

Can you imagine medical marijuana being presented as a Mississippi ballot Proposition in the upcoming Nov. election?

Phil Bryant would **** a brick.

Sit out the first game last year for "undisclosed violation of team rules" including Fletcher Cox, Dylan Favre, and others. Our policy may/may not be getting followed to a t... But we've had almost zero problems with discipline under Mullen(and Croom before him), so for all intents and purposes, the inmates are not running our asylum and haven't been since 2003. Yeah, Bumphis had an incident this offseason.. And I expect him to sit for it...

Ole Miss is sitting exactly where we were in 03 in that regard, when Croom came in and cleaned house. I'm skeptical of Freeze as a disciplinarian until some of that starts to happen, or until he proves himself otherwise. Especially when the apparent starting qb has had 2 very public incidents in his first 4 months on campus...

Hell, the full-time users are probably the ones that know how to fool the tests. It's the almost-never users that probably don't.

And isn't it the players choice whether to perfrom at his best or not?

Not upset at all.

Just pointing out that very few teams are going to suspend a star player in the middle of a BCS conference season unless it is really bad. Policy, like in any workplace, is just paper unless you are following it.

This has nothing to do with Buck Tooth. The policy was there before he came along.

Who works full-time and I feel that i get after it pretty hard outside of work. The only effect pot has on anything is WHEN you smoke it. If I go into work after smoking, I'm obviously going to be a little loopy and
Not on my game. So I don't do that. It's the same reason I don't smoke before Doing something outside where my life/personal safety rely on being clear-headed. However, if I get off of work and burn a little
While watching a Planet Earth documentary, then absolutely no harm is done it's yhw same as getting home and having a cocktail to relax.

A football player that gets off practcie and smokes a bowl while
Relaxing and listening to music is doImg no harm to himself or the team.

Marijuana has 20 times the ammonia, and five times more hydrogencyanide and nitrous oxides than tobacco smoke. Not only that, but you NEVER smoke filtered marijuana cigarettes. You're more prone to lung-related diseases (emphysema, tuberculosis, lung cancer) as you are smoking cigarettes. Yeah, you won't die immediately if you smoke a marijuana joint, but you don't die of cancer right after smoking one cigarette either.<div>

</div><div>Since you're speaking anecdotally instead of researching scientific facts, I can tell you that if you are a heavy marijuana smoker when you are young, you begin "forgetting" things when you reach middle age, even if you're clean for years.</div><div>
</div><div>Finally, how many people got smarter, sharper, quicker, after smoking marijuana?</div> </div>

they are smoking way more than a "bowl". More like a blunt or 5. Smoking weed is seriously counter productive to being a finely tuned athlete. They all get free school to be athletes. Wanna smoke weed? Fine, give your scholarship to the next guy then.

It's counterproductive to being an athelete too. But good luck recruiting that way.

You're recruiting them TO COLLEGE. They expect, and should, to be college students.
