And people wonder how

Conspiracy theories get their fuel. Hopefully he took good notes or had someone like me sitting at the desk next to him.

Completely unrelated question, did he have any association with the Clintons?

Translation, a medical researcher in Pittsburg was killed by an acquaintence in a murder / suicide.

What the 17 even is this article? “On the verge of a breakthrough”....pretty damn vague. You could say any of hundreds of thousands of folks currently researching this are “on the verge” of something. Just headline sensationalism at its best. Do better, media.

I agree it’s vague. But, that quote came from the University of Pitt’s statement. It’s not like NBC just dreamed it up.

Yes, I read it as a generic homage I would expect from an employer of a deceased researcher. They use this quote only, with no mention of quotes from his family / friends about what kind of person he was or anything else about his non-work life. It’s pretty clear what the angle was. And I guess it worked, because people are stupid.

Interesting headline. This guy is a computational biologist (modeling) that I can’t find with a SARS paper in the past. My guess is he was modeling mechanisms of infection in at the cellular level. He wasn’t on their vaccine paper that was published or in any of the Coronavirus groups that have published from UPitt. Other news has this as a murder-suicide. Sad.

Yeah. Domestic dispute murder-suicide. Happens every day somewhere. I'm surprised I haven't been bombarded with conspiracy theories by the usual suspects on Facebook yet.

If the Clinton's are as big a bunch of badasses as some folks claim I think I'd pause for a moment before I go bashing them. Personally I think they're wonderful.***********************************************

Yep. Just every day some random Chinese guy who happens to be researching a very sensative subject-matter is randomly premeditatedly murdered in his home by another Chinese nationalist. I'm sure it was just a squabble over old dudes dog crapping in his yard or something. Happens every day.**

Except there’s no mention at all about either party being Chinese anywhere in the article. The only remote reference or even hint to the nationality of either one is that the researcher got his PhD in Singapore, which is obviously not in China. And the updated version states that the police are treating it as a domestic dispute. Don’t see how it’s even relevant, as he has been displaced from where ever he is from since we’ll before the COVID outbreak occurred.

Liu is survived by his wife and parents, who still live in China.

You're right. The nationality is probably irrelevant and I was wrong to assume he was Chinese. But even so, what are the odds? Maybe it was just a love affair gone wrong. Maybe a disgruntled coworker. Maybe it was just another doctor working with coronavirus knocked off.

It's probably safe to assume that a guy named Liu is of Chinese descent.

Or Vietnamese or Indonesian or Cambodian or any number of other East Asia points of origin.

Of course, you can pull any random human being on the planet from a hat, guess they are Chinese, and still have about a 25% chance of being right. So there’s that.
