That's the story. It's been discussed how it's probably an excuse to kick him off the team because most schools (including MSU) allow at least one failed test before a dismissal.

Ray is cleaning house, which is funny considering some of the **** I saw from his guys last spring.

Perfect time to become a Pelicans/NBA fan.

Some of the stuff that I hear from my kid who has classes with a lot of players makes me laugh. It is truly fascinating the stories that I hear.

Are you seriously arguing that this is Lewis's first failed test and that he wasn't given multiple chances?

You act like the basketball players being at the bar is different from any other time since prohibition. I can't tell you how many times I saw Jamont Gordon, Ontario Harper, Michael Gholar, Tall Wes, and about 20 other basketball players completely wasted at the bar. This isn't a basketball issue either as I've seen Kevin Fant barely able to stand, Quinton Culbertson pounding shots, Fred Smoot completely tore up and another 30 football players. Baseball is different? Hardly, wanna get drunk with the entire baseball team? Hang out at the Highlands on the weekend. IT'S COLLEGE!!! EVERYBODY IS WASTED!!

I have no problem with players having lives. I have a problem with kids being at fraternity houses drinking until 2 or 3 the night before games and losing said games after leading by 10+ in the last part of the second half (fixed).

Kodi Augustus used to be the life of the party. It's nothing new, but it erks me when I read on this board how these guys give 110% effort and Ray has these guys in check. Nothing has changed since Stans' outting (except the talent level), and I say that as someone who wanted Stans out for a long time.

From the mouth of a friend who works for the athletic department none of the players like our best player either because he tells on them for things like that. At this point I'd rather have more thugs and a scumbag coach who gets the good ones to come to MSU for a year. Pretending that this team gives a **** is pathetic.

Drinking the night before a game is why you have this vendetta against rick ray? The way you blow a gasket every time someone mentions the hoops team, I thought you had stumbled on Craig sword goin Aaron Hernandez on a waterboy out at the refuge.

Rick Ray can't babysit them 24 hours a day. At some point the player has to be held responsible for his actions outside the court. It's a part of progressing and developing. It's not just the basketball skills that have to be developed when they get here from HS. They have to mature. Rick Ray can't do that for any of them. They have to want to be better.

By the time these players are juniors and seniors I can bet you won't be seeing much of them at the bar anymore. They will get left behind and cycled out of the program if they keep up the same habits. The good ones (Gavin Ware) are still here and graduate and the 17 ups lose their scholarships (Steele and Lewis). Ray has been here one year and he's already dismissed 4 PLAYERS! You can't expect him to suspend everyone but give him time and I guarantee you he will find replacements for the ones you're worried about.

I don't have a vendetta against Ray. I don't think he was the right person for the job and still feel that way, but I'm not one of the people who stopped going to games and things because I was pissed about it. I have a problem with the notion that there's accountability now because there isn't, so whoever's fault that is I have a vendetta against them. Ultimately it comes down to the players being shitheads knowing they have two winnable games but decide to act unprofessionally anyway. Say what you will about Stans' ****-tastic players, I don't think any of those guys were getting wasted at 3 am the night before LSU. Tuesday night? Most definitely. The whole semester leading up to the season? Hell yes, those guys didn't give a ****. Obviously I don't know their lives but I never saw those guys out on Fridays playing beer pong at frat houses. Not during the season. Again, outside of the season is a totally different story.

I wish Ray all the luck in the world. I can't pull for these players or say they give 110% after seeing the **** I saw though.

I can agree to that assessment. I don't not like Ray, it's just that this team is a complete wash for me now.

Steele was one of the good ones though, for what it's worth. That guy did everything right on and off the court. His suspension last year was BS. It was something like he missed class, but that guy was in some of my classes at some point or another and he was definitely in school to get a degree, unlike almost every athlete I encountered at MSU. He wasn't dismissed, just decided to do what was best for him... And I guess that's to get his masters from Troy.

I kid you not- I dont know who you are referring to when you mention our best player. There are a few that I could see qualifying for that prestigious title. And its not because we have 3 potential All Americans on the team.

You're missing the point. Ray had ZERO luxury to kick off ANYONE after he kicked off Smith and the Euro. Now he is using Lewis and Steele as a scare tactic for the sophomore/freshman class. I promise you the next guys to go will be those "playing beer pong at 3am". These things take time. He can't kick off the whole team all at once.

Well, under Stans they both partied all night and didn't give 110% on the court

At least now they give 110% on the court. I haven't seen anyone suggest that Ray refuses to allow any shenanigans of any sort. In fact, I also haven't figured out how a 3rd failed piss test is the exact same as your "buddy" says our new players are at the frat house until 2-3 a.m. I guess in your mind, 1 offense = 3 offenses, drinking = failed piss tests, etc...

If nothing had changed since Stans' firing, we'd have won zero games last year and shown absolutely no signs of life, because his players did not play hard for him the last several years. They did play hard for him at the beginning, but that all changed many years ago. You'd rather have thugs come to MSU for one year? To what, play in the NIT? When was the last time we had a 1 and done because he went to the NBA? That's just a dumb comment.

Bottom line: if you can't look at the on-court play from last season compared to the one prior and see the difference, and that if Ray had the same talent Stans had who played the way our guys did last year then we would be successful, then I just don't know what to tell you other than to open your eyes. If your entire complaint is "kids are still acting like kids" then perhaps you need to think it through a little further.

Ray may not be successful in the end, but these comments are just silly.

So, I feel confident in saying that despite your knowledge of what is going on, you still don't know jack ****. And that is just from reading your posts on the subject in this thread. Doesn't take inside sources to deduce that. I do feel bad for Jalen. Loved that guy and you are right that he seemed to do everything right. But he is hurt and couldn't or wouldn't play this year. The numbers just didn't work anymore. I wish him the best.

yeah, you wish Ray to "succeed" yet refuse to pull for these players or their coach. that's all anyone needs to know about you on this subject. that may be the most absurd and completely asinine thing I've heard in a while. don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I don't have a vendetta against Ray.

Says the guy who tried to find fault with him getting our players bigger and stronger than they were the previous year, something our basketball program hasn't seen in a very long time outside of a select few individuals putting forth individual effort.

I have a problem with the notion that there's accountability now because there isn't

What do you call kicking a key player off the team for what's likely a repeat offense of team and NCAA rules, if not accountability? What more can he do? Keep players away from bars and parties on their own time through sheer force of will?
