IN 100% - it's funny, I was working and lost tract of time- I started to watch 2nd half- like 41-39 or something like that - I saw a team that could beat anyone and a defense like I have never seen.
Annoucers were being nice when they mentioned that as good as our D was that Mich also just screwed the pooch.
They never had a clean play or open shot the entire 2nd half- and then the announcers say their best shot was to give their 7ft C 3 point looks...WTF-

Oh crap. I'm supposed to bowl at noon tomorrow. I need a sub? You over 55 and interested? Oakwood lanes in Washington, NJ. (,Lots of hot 75 year olds).
Hahaha I know that place well. From Belvidere and my buddy's parents used to work there. They had the best honey/hot mustard. Wonder if they still do

That’s only a few miles down the road from me. I’ve still never been there.

Well if you like to bowl it's a decent spot with a bar in it and decent snack food... or at least it did back when I was in HS
Still does. You should see the looks I get grabbing a pint at noon on a Friday. There may be one cougar in the crowd I'd think about " striking" (bowler humor)

I think some Rutgers fans are putting too much faith in NET rankings. We are 19-13 and if we lose to Purdue we are not getting into the NCAA tourney. For all of March we have shown very little consistency . Why tempering expectations is not a bad thing. . Too many teams in our conference with similar records and much more history. I’ll be hoping for a Sunday surprise but also have seen many teams get screwed over the years.

1995 called. They want their NCAA Tourney committee criteria back.

Seriously though, your thinking is flawed because it's dated. "Ya need at least 20 wins." "Ya gotta be a big name school." "Ya gotta play well & get hot in late Feb./early Mar." That is all dated criteria. The committee's philosophy & approach changed years ago '72.

Purdue has been resting for a week. Don't know how that plays out.
I'm a big fan of no double bye. Your coming in cold and not invested emotionally in the tourney yet. I wholeheartedly feel the double bye teams are acts disadvantage. I knew we would get dumped last year and called it as soon as we got the double bye

It also didn't help that Rutgers had to go against Iowa (generally been a nemesis opponent) last year in the QF, and maybe this time around Purdue would rather not want to face Rutgers. Rutgers can hopefully carry forward some momentum and maybe Purdue is a bit cold from their layoff.

Forgive him - 72 still thinks the NIT is a bigger deal to get into than that upstart NCAA tournament.

It may have changed (?) and then again my hesitation in getting overly excited by “ we’re in “ is simply seeing a school get surprised on selection day with a look of dismay. You are correct that the 20 wins is not the end all. The conference is loaded with similar records and is very good but someone is ultimately going to be left sitting on the bench after the picks are made. You would feel much better had we won 2-3 more games instead of how we have reached this spot. Can we beat Purdue again? If we don’t then Rutgers could be disappointed in the end.

This is where being in the B1G helps more than hurts IMO.

"a win against Purdue will lock RU in"

oh you think, Brad?

Brad with the hot take!!

he gets paid for this. this is no more than a bad post on a message board - he puts food on the table with this stuff? unreal.
You have no idea what you're talking about. He might make a few bucks here or there but it is not his full time job. We have to many fans who don't have a full understanding or have an outdated understanding of how the field is selected.

I'll say it over & over. We can trade 2's with any team in the country. We cannot trade 3's. If Edey scores 35 & we shut down their shooters we win. If Pike took tha same approach and we gave up 30 to labracha from iowa but shut down their shooters we beat iowa 75% of time

We need to stop collapsing our defenders down low to paint to help CO. Keep 3 or 4 defenders up top of 3 or arc and switch off on shooters with those 3 or 4 defenders. If you cover the perimeter we win
Just need them to speed up their shots 1/2 second and swishes become bricks. Make the bear you on dribble drive. Their strength is shooting take it away

Good points. We overhelp a lot on tough 2's, when our communication, rotations and closeouts/contests are elite and opponents miss shots, we're elite and very difficult to beat. There is very little margin for error in this way of playing.

Next level defense would be figuring out which 2's to give up and giving up fewer 3's.
Next level offense is MUCH easier, low hanging fruit - get your 2-3 best shooters more 3's next year.

Relax ms wachtel. I’m glad your son has a job.

Btw my comment was about the “captain obvious” nature of your sons tweet . I said nothing about how the field is actually selected.

But thx for your participation

The perception is still , “ it’s Rutgers”. It’s wrong and it will take several stronger seasons to change that bias. It’s changing and most never thought it would ever change. We are a different program . The injury to Mawot hurt us badly and who would have thought that?

Rutgers has a good perception now. People are living in the past. Everyone in college basketball now respects the Rutgers basketball program. We actually get a lot of love from everyone talking about how great of a job Pike has done

There is a different perception only in those who are pro Rutgers. Most basketball fans will not cry for dear old RU. We needed to win TODAY and that bad callswas not going to be easy. Edey is a player they want to see advance. Perhaps in the next 2-3 years those hack refs will change. If you go back to earlier years you always feared them taking us out of the game by a bad call.

“The company you keep” is helping to change that.

Nobody could have watched the second half of that game and then thought that Rutgers doesn't belong in March Madness.
I guess they weren't watching.
Rutgers deserved to be in the tournament. My guess is that they were concerned about having too many Big Ten teams dancing. Friggin pity.
