The perception is still , “ it’s Rutgers”. It’s wrong and it will take several stronger seasons to change that bias. It’s changing and most never thought it would ever change. We are a different program . The injury to Mawot hurt us badly and who would have thought that?
Me
We don't have the quality depth off the bench yet.
The Mag injury was huge. As evidenced by RU play since.
The personnel we need is on the way, but doesn't help us this year.

Probably won't even watch NIT. Better things to do in Fla.

I guess they weren't watching.
Rutgers deserved to be in the tournament. My guess is that they were concerned about having too many Big Ten teams dancing. Friggin pity.
Yep. Everyone on this forum for most part ignored this trap for Rutgers chances.

This was bad take.
Well it was post-game euphoria; I did acknowledge later that there was a 0.1-1.0% chance of being left out because, you know, we can't control fukktards in the NCAA. Completely effed and all you can do is think to drag up old threads? Get a life. I'll be pissed for another 10 minutes and then I get to go for a nice dinner with my wife. Perspective.

Some Rutgers fans cautioned others on the board claiming “we’re in” was putting the cart before the horse. Factually losing 7 of final 10 was not a good look and as much as I believe we deserved a bid I am not surprised . We needed to beat Purdue again in order to change perception of our poor play down the stretch. Suck it up and win the NIT .

Yes our depth is still suspect but we most positively could have won 2-3 more of the games we lost and without Mag.

Definitely do not have the depth but our defensive philosophy against teams that can shoot is so stupid. There is. ZERO need to collapse to paint on defense just cover the Fing shooters cost us alot of games. We should have won that Purdue game. No help on Edey he scores 35. You shut down Gillis &# 24 from Purdue by not collapsing and you take at least 20 pts off the board. He sucked the last game. How many games did with give up at least 10-12 3's.

Even if Purdue goes 1 dimensional because we took the 3 pters away Edey is NOT going 20-20 from the field.

Agreed but our margin for error was much smaller. Other guys weren't able pick up the slack.

Here we are. You are what your record says you are. I am still long on RU basketball. Enthusiastically so.

Good times ahead. Everybody has to step back from the ledge.

I'm not privy to the thinking that goes into game planning. You could be right... who knows?

I'm smart enough to know how much I don't know. I trust Pike to do the best he can with what he has. So far he and the guys have done us proud.

Folks have to remember where this program was just a few short years ago.
Progress is nothing short of impressive.

No doubt light years ahead but you cannot play the same defense for every team. If you have a team that can shoot and also post game you need to take something away. You take away the shooters.

Ex Nebby's post game is not great Walker. They have guys that can shoot. You have to take the wide open 3 out of the equation give them the no help post. Same with Minny, Iowa etc. The teams that we did squeak by go back and check stats they missed wide open look after look on 3's

If Purdue was already 1 dimensional and only had Edey yeah double & triple him but they weren't, they had shooters take that away. Make them rush the 3 a half second-second sooner and your swishes are now bricks

The announcer on TV said the four 3 quad losses were the reason given for RU not making the tourney. Can't disagree with that.

Oh really. We are ahead in Net, we have more quad 1 wins and we beat you twice. Lmao

You have been doing this a long time and I admire your restraint, but we are 100% in and not in Dayton . We are a protected 11 or last 10. Any doubt from the committee was squashed. It was a historic defensive effort. Think about this for a minute as I do not think it has ever happened , we held them to 1 field goal for the first 19 minutes of the second half. Has to be a record. The committee now knows why our # 3 defensive efficiency looks like and how it can get us to the sweet sixteen . Plus some uptempo offense or great defense into uptempo offense we haven’t seen since we lost MAG . Go put our resume up against all the 10’s and 11’s. We edge all of them.
Clowns of the week award unfortunately solidified.

Future still bright.

Did you not read my post? I said it was post game euphoria. I've made several posts since then where I said we were slightly less than 100%, since I've never been an absolutist. Are you going around criticizing every fan who said we were locked to be in the tourney (there were many) or almost locked? Or were you saving that special honor only for me? You're probably the kind of guy who would criticize bac for missing 1 or 2 picks since one of them was RU. The ability of some posters to behave like d-bags on a night when every RU fans is hurting at least a little is, sadly, not that surprising. Now go kick your dog.

We were always 99.9% in at least Dayton, as I've been saying, but now we're 99.9% in, but not in Dayton, given the lack of bid stealers.

99% out of Dayton - I rarely claim certainty, lol...

i posted that night twice that this thread was stupid, didnt save it for tonight, of course you ignore that. You in fact are one of the more pompous people here constantly acting like you are smarter than everyone and know everything. You always try and find a way to wiggle out when you are wrong and its pretty often. If you notice, I spend little time criticizing players or fans…so yeah, probably a special spot for mr know it all, who acts like you do.

Absolutely thought we were at least going to be in Dayton - way wrong. Eff this. OSU and MN killed it. Oh well. And on top of not making the tourney, it's looking like our snowstorm might end up being mostly wet with little snow, at least for the 95 corridor. Goddamn it.

I started an entire thread saying I was way wrong immediately after we got shafted. That wasn't enough for you? You're being an absolute dick.

You could visually see us being set up for a letdown and there are some who would still think we were IN. The belief that beating Michigan sowed up a seed for us was way over the top . Several of us warned others that nothing was guaranteed since for 5 weeks we were not performing at a top level . We went from the proverbially lock to looking like the horses ***. Blaming players and Piekell is just wrong. Let’s win 5 more even if it’s only the NIT.

I think some Rutgers fans are putting too much faith in NET rankings. We are 19-13 and if we lose to Purdue we are not getting into the NCAA tourney. For all of March we have shown very little consistency . Why tempering expectations is not a bad thing. . Too many teams in our conference with similar records and much more history. I’ll be hoping for a Sunday surprise but also have seen many teams get screwed over the years.
Guess you should have believed the” old man .”

You can excuse one of the 2-3 we should have won. Especially at Minnesota no pass on that loss and Penn State was another. I have loved Mag since his high school days . A true warrior on the court. It is important to make a good showing even if in the NIT. Other schools with better history have won it and benefited by the experience. Trust this … I would have preferred to be in the NCAA tourney but one thing I have come to realize is never discount an invitation especially in the NYC area. If we don’t win at least 3 games I will be disappointed.

1995 called. They want their NCAA Tourney committee criteria back.

Seriously though, your thinking is flawed because it's dated. "Ya need at least 20 wins." "Ya gotta be a big name school." "Ya gotta play well & get hot in late Feb./early Mar." That is all dated criteria. The committee's philosophy & approach changed years ago '72.
This is exactly what happened

I have followed Rutgers sports since 1960 …all sports … somewhat of a cultist . Our past history vs the MBB history of several schools from our conference most definitely got the benefit of doubt regardless of our poor losses . Our Q1 wins and the actual sweeps of several teams I believe bares that out. The NET is what I felt was BS and too weighted in our favor if bad losses really mattered during the season. All considered you don’t lose 6-7 of last 10 games and expect not to get screwed over.
