If Mullen isenticedto Georgia after the season (which is hopefully a success) then I won't be mad about it and will thank him for what he's done on his way out. I'm convinced that we can find a good coach now under the new leadership we have.<div>
</div><div>Either way... I'm still willing to bet that Mullen will stay if Georgia comes knocking.</div>

they were discussing this last night on 680 the fan here in atlanta .. .said that if UGA is trailing going into the half that UGA fans will be booing like crazy and will get rather ugly. Pretty much Richt's future rests on this weekend .. win and he's still got a shot to make a decent season of it; can still win the East. Lose and you're 0-2 and make it very difficult to win the East.

SC will win though. Those doners of ours that are supposedly waiting in the wings with the checkbooks in order to keep Mullen better be ready. Not saying Dan would leave us mid-season, but post-season if that's what he wants to do.

Seth Emerson of the Macon Dispatch said this morning that Georgia had no plans and would not have any plans to fire Richt mid-season. Although Richt is under immense pressure from the fans to win, he has a great relationship with the AD and is very weill liked within the Athens community due to his charitable involvement.

He also said that should Richt get fired after the season that the #1 target would be Dan Mullen. I'm sorry, but I just don't see Mullen leaving after receiving a contract extension with a healthy increase in salary, numerous plans for facility upgrades and stadium expansion. Almost seems like a slightly lateral move to me.

Worrying about losing a coach is a waste of time. If Mullen leaves us for a better job at some point, it's because he did a good job here. And our program would be in a very good position to make another good hire. What coach wouldn't want to come to an SEC school that can pay a lot of money, has been successful on the field, and oh by the way the last coach justparlayed that jobinto one of the best jobs in the country. Being a stepping stone gets an unfair bad rep. It sure hasn't hurt Boise St. when their last 2 coaches left for bigger jobs.

Great facilities, huge fanbase, great talent base to recruit from, and the pressure isn't what it is at LSU, Bama or Florida.

I used to think Mullen was here as a stepping stone....I really don't think so....again, Mullen goes to UGA and has a couple of 8 win seasons.....he's fired....

he goes 6-6 to 8-4 here three straight seasons, we are gonna hang a statue of him and give him a raise....

Megan Mullen's parents are officially moved here and settled.....they could move them again, but does she want to do that again? to a place that might fire him in 3 seasons for winning majority of his games?

Dan trully believes he can win the SEC with what we offer here at MSU, and I agree with him....he is having the time of his life 17'in with the arrogant pricks up north, and is already talking about the 'maroon game' with aTm already...

what is UGA gonna do? throw $5M a season at him? even at that, I don't forsee him leaving......not UGA.....

I could be wrong, but I really don't think "I am happy at MSU" "I think we can win a championship at MSU" is coach speak......call me gullible, but dan is no tommy tubberville....

hope I'm right....

there's good scholarship that says Kirby Smart is still the guy. Hell, the way he has punked richt's *** for about every top Georgia recruit the past 3 years, they need to hire the guy.

most coaches these days so I think we have a chance to hold on to him and I am certain we will give it our best shot, that is all we can do! I sincerely believe he wants to win a championship at MSU and I would say once that is done then I am not sure we will have enough money and good grocery stores to hold him.

I wouldn't say it's the best job in college football, but it's right up there with Alabama, Florida, and LSU in the SEC for sure.

Georgia has been a sleeping giant for a while. You can win big without leaving the state to recruit, and I'm talking national title big. Georgia just hasn't been able to keep enough of them home over their recent (last 20 years or so) history.

Rumors from Boise is he's PO'd about his AD and longtime friend being fired, and that he is finally ready entertain offers after this season(practically his entire team also graduating). Aaron Murray/GA offense much more similar to Boise than to Dan and the spread, making for a much smoother transition.

With the current SEC administration, it's highlydiscouraged for schools to poachHC's from other schools inside the conference unless it's to an alma-mater. The last time apopular HC left for another school in-conferencewasTuberville in 1998, 5 years prior to Slive becoming commissioner.

Not saying that Dan won't go, or that this can't happen, just that history is on our side for once. This current "news" is just the Rebel PR machine trying to stir unrest for us. They did the same thing with Jackie literally every single season.

all of you are fools if you don't think Mullen would leave for UGA. Holy ****...you guys are just in denial. It's a top job and it's one of only a few that he would consider leaving for.

Of course it would be a job for him to consider, but if UGA fired someone that has had the success of Richt after 2 weeks versus the most difficult schedule start in FBS this year, it wouldn't look quite as appealing in my opinion. If it's such an amazing damn job, why are we talking about them finding a new coach in the first place. Especially one that has been succesful there.</p>

<div>But I ask, what need of Mullen's isn't currently being met? He's got it pretty good here at MSU. The entire fan base has a giant man crush and the money he's making goes along way in MS. I think he has a entrepreneurialspirit and is looking for the immortality that comes with building something out of nothing. </div><div>
</div><div>He always tells recruits that you can come to MSU and be "the man". Does this not apply to him also? Plus with the pressure of the big programs, that he and Megan are already aware of thanks to the grocery store Florida fan, I believe they will be here for awhile. Either he's telling the truth or not. I for one believe him until he shows me otherwise.</div>

Living in Atlanta I can tell you the local media here is about as schizophrenic as it gets. Friday before the Boise game they were saying Georgia would go 10-2. Now Richt is going to get fired. Sorry to tell the bears but Richt is not going anywhere. Their schedule is easy and Richt just pulled in a top 5 recruiting class. He's got tons of backing and the UGA boosters are still behind him financially. His seat is a little warm but not as hot as Hootin Dale's.

Let's not forget Georgia is a very young team, they got beat by a very good football team. There is no reason to believe that UGA can't have a good record at the end of this season. They have Vandy, Kentucky, and Ole Miss plus 3 more OOC games. If they can wina coupleagainst State (let's hope not), Auburn (very likely), Florida (not likely), or Tennessee (very possible) then they are looking at 8-4. Who's going to fire a coach who averages over 9 wins a season and brings in top five recruiting classes?

Everyone just back away from the ledge. Dan Mullen is definintely a name that's being thrown around in the angry masses but just as many UGA fans think he's not good enough as ones do that want him.

this is the type of **** that MSU, as a fan base, is going to have to get used to hearing if we expect to raise the bar and consistently compete at a higher level... if we are hearing that top programs will be gunning for our coaches then instead of wringing our hands and gnashing our teeth we need to sit back, relax, and realize it's because he's THAT GOOD. Enjoy what you've got while you've got it...

UGA will never ever ever fire Mark Richt in the middle of the season. That is complete 17n garbage. And we know why this is coming out and it's only going to get worse if we continue to suceed this season.

since Dooley retired its pretty much been a coaching graveyard. The Ray Goff era went poorly and the Jim Donnan era wasn't that much better. Richt has definitely been the most successful since Dooley but his rear end is sitting on a heating furnace right now. Just goes to show that its difficult right now for a coach to win at Georgia at the level the fans seem to expect. Now I have no idea if Mullen would entertain an offer from Georgia but I'm not going to worry about it one way or the other. I want MSU to win as many games as possible this year regardless and we have no control over what Georgia does or doesn't win this year (save the one game) so whatever happens on that front happens.

Will be Kirby Smart. They are interested and he is interested. This will happen. For the first time in my message board life, I actually have a source on this one.

now after the amount of wins he has produced in the past, then other coaches will take notice of that fickled fan base and think twice about it ... Jim Donnan carried them to 5 straight bowl games and they fired him .... very difficult to appease that fanbase

Just my $0.02

Mullen seems to be very ego driven.... mostly in a good way. He'll be here until he feels he can't win, then he'll jump ship. He's got alot of control here that he doesn't have at the more traditional power house jobs so I have a harder time seeing him go for UGA.

Just to prove once again, he's not leaving. Every decent job that comes open, or ever may open in the future has Dan Mullen as the likely top candidate. And everyone of these has it's own thread or 2 or 3 on Sixpack.

Enough already with the 'Dan is leaving' from our own fans.

And, I know you claim you don't want him to leave, but you cause unrest amongst our own fans about it, and happiness amongst our rival. So who's side are you really on by posting this ****.

Edited to say: He's not leaving as long as everyone is involved and we continue to grow. Once the fans stop buying tickets and showing up for games, he's gone.

If Dan Mullen was going to leave for another SEC job, it would have been Florida... I remember this board was pretty much resigned to the fact that Dan WAS leaving for Florida when the job came open.. Florida didn't even talk to him and wound up going with Muschamp..

I agree that Kirby Smart will probably be the next coach at Georgia considering he went there and is as good of an assistant coach as you will find in the country. Like Mullen he has worked at a championship program and knows what it takes to win..

Dan Mullen is not Lane Kiffin, calm down people, he isn't leaving to a program that he beat down last year...<div>
</div><div>Kirby Smart or Chris Peterson will be the next HC at Georgia if Richt is fired..</div>

If he were still around. Pretty sure he left a nice chunk of cash to keep a coach "worth a 17". It was one of his last wishes with his minimal endowment he left, for MSU officials to use whatever portions needed to hold onto a coach if we needed to use the money he left. He despised Crxxms and made it a point that we keep a coach if we ever got one that could win.

I just hate it that Mr. Seal passed before he got to see what Mullen has done with this program, even though I believe he is smiling down on what his endowment is doing. A quarter billion dollars can more than keep any coach.
