I know it didn`t get quite as far with Petersen but I don`t think either one of them was ready for the insanity of the SEC.

Actually, Rod was a done deal for Bama and the plane was on the way. He had already contacted Dabo Swinney and others to come to Bama with him. ( the same day he changed his mind) As it turns out, the Pres (owner?) of the Diamondbacks flew in and made all sorts of promises about upgraded facilities etc if he would stay.. I don't think he feared the SEC at all.. I think he would have gone anywhere if the job offered money and prestige.
Actually, the story I heard on RichRod is that he was all but hired to Alabama, and then Sexton called Alabama to say that Saban wanted the job, so Bama nixed Rodriguez at the last minute.
I'm sure it's all internet rumor, but I thought it was a good story, and it's plausible.
