The LSU Tigers got taken behind the wood shed during the BCS National
Championship game. It was more thanembarrassing for the Tigers and
their fans. LSU’s offense was never a Brees type juggernaut but, they
did manage to average 35.7 a game for 17th in the country. The Tigers
beat the living tar out of everyone they met sans the Crimson Tide in
Tuscaloosa. The LSU Tigers beat 3 top 5 teams and 8 top 25 teams. They
beat them allconvincingly. There was no mistaking who was number 1
for the regular season. The majority of the college football world
would credit Saban and the Alabama’s defense for the crushing win. I
do too they worked hard for a month to perfect a game plan against the
nation’s 2nd best defense. But, Is there more to this crushing defeat
than just a good ol’ fashion butt kicking? We may never know. The
Tigers offense seemingly playeduninspiredand unimpressive throughout
the whole game. I’m not one to givecredencetorumorsor heresy but,
sometimes where’s there’s smoke there’s fire. Take what you will from
the following Ireceivedfrom a trusted friend. Did the Tigers get
outplayed? Yes. Is it Les Miles fault? Not totally. Is the comment Bobby Hebert made
ill-timed orinappropriate? Not what so ever. Make the call for
yourself. No matter what happened before the Tigers had their heads
handed to them. Is this all arumoror part of the truth slowly eeking
out? Time will tell. Either way this shakes out the Tigers
arelookingstrong for next year.</p>

Thefollowingcomes from an unnamed source…….. Apparently about 3
hours before the game T-Bob Hebert and Russell Shepard and 2 other
receivers and a hand full of linemen got into a heated argument with Les
Miles and the Offensive Coordinator about Lee getting more playing time
and possibly starting the BCS Championship game. It got so heated that
Miles benched T-Bob and RS and 3 other players. He called Lee into his
office and told Lee that he would not be playing in the game. The
Offensive CO told Miles that he thought that Lee gave the team the best
chance to win the game. Miles told the OC to start looking for a new job
after the game and Miles will be calling the plays for the championship
game. Apparently the O Line sided with T-Bob and Lee and did not give
their all in the game to prove to Miles that the players are more
important than the coach. Now I know that this is hard to believe but
when you look at some things it kind of explains a few things: I will
list some:
</p>

Playcalling: Read option pass on 3rd and 10 – 4 times. Running
the same 5 plays over 90% of the game. Overall, Horrible play calling.
Running the ball in the 4th quarter with 9 mins and down by 21. T-Bob
Hebert not taking a snap in the game. RS only playing 3 snaps and not
touching the ball or getting looked at. Lee getting off the bus and
walking 10 feet behind the team with his head down and looking dejected
while walking into the Dome. Heated argument between receivers and JJ
and O Line with O line coach on sidelines. And the kicker, reports that
2/3 rds. of the plays that were practiced up to the game were not run
and the players were not told why. Again I do not know if this is
entirely true but there seems to be a lot of truth in it just by seeing
what happened in the game.
</p>

The LSU team did not arrive at the dome until shortly after 6:00
PM. It seems that T-Bob Hebert & Russell Shepherd met with Les &
told him that they were not happy with Jefferson’s preparation &
attitude leading up to the game. He was purportedly at Harrah’s a couple
of nights & drinking heavily. Most of the receiving corp has been
on Miles to play Lee & throw more. Well Les evidently took the
criticism the wrong way & all **** broke loose at a team meeting.
Hebert & Shepherd never got in the game. The offense was pissed.
Jefferson lost the heart & soul of many of his teammates. Les was
stubborn. Something evidently happened earlier between Miles & Lee
& possibly Lee’s father after he was benched and Miles essentially
dismissed him from the team for all practical purposes. Now not only is
Claiborne leaving for the draft but so is Randle, Brockers &
Shepherd (who may have no other choice but to leave LSU). Kadrone Boone (
a promising young receiver) has indicated that he will transfer from
LSU. This is one of the worst internal problems that I have ever seen at
LSU. This is not a black & white issue. It is an issue of team
leadership (or lack of) & a coach that won’t listen to tenured
upperclassmen.
</p>

Where there is smoke there is fire. We will all see what happens. Hopefully this is all just garbage but we’ll see.</p></div></div>

After watching SEC football for 25+ years and watching these 2 teams play all year long, I feel that one of two scenarios took place during the Title game:

1.Major internal strife within the LSU organization involving players, coaching staff, etc.
2. Big time cash coming down on the side of Bama and LSU coaching staff being instructed "not to win" this game

Sure, Alabama played a great defensive game but the LSU players looked emotionally unattached and unfocused during the biggest game of their season. There is no way that happens without one of the two scenarios taking place. I was unaware the T-Bob Hebert and Russell Shepherd basically rode the pine during this game. More fuel to the fire. Something went down prior to kickoff. LSU players played with no fire in the belly. Just my opinion.

The fact is, the second game didn't play out that much differently than the first one. LSU got a lot of breaks in the first one and Saban made a lot of bad decisions in the first one. Those things didn't happen in the second one. LSU didn't move the ball on Bama's defense in either game, no matter which QB they played. The only even marginal success they had on offense was with the option, but they weren't going to surprise them with that again this time and you had to know Saban would be better prepared for it the second time. As poorly as Saban coached the first game, he did a great job in the second one.

it would have been Russell Shepard. Not using him alone tells you something was bad wrong in the locker room.

in that game. But if this crap happened as is being said it would explain why they could not get past the fifty. The
other thing I found interesting was a earlier poster said someone put down a large lump in Vegas on Bama. Just
wonder if this is true about the players who all knew what was going on.

Have to wait and see what happens at Tiger land start of next year..

They "beat the tar" out of us, when it was barely 9-6 after 3 quarters.

LSU fans just can't believe they got beat.

Without some major luck, and bad coaching in the first game with Bama, they would have lost that game.

Alabama didn't "beat the tar" out of us. It was a close game until the end when we basically wore out, or gave up, and let the score the last TD.<div>
</div><div>We played really solid ball all year except in a couple of the easy games (e.g., UAB, LaTech) and never really got blown out except for Arkansas and possibly Georgia. I fully expect us to have a much better record next year.</div>

major differences:<div>
</div><div>Bama had a less conservative gameplan, the Defense played (a little) better, no turnovers, Kickers made kicks...</div><div>
</div><div>LSU did "what they do"... flop around on offense in hopes of a big play and hope their opponent makes a mistake....LSU could have the ball 50 quarters and not move on that Defense. </div>

that he didn't at least try Lee. And if not Lee, try Metterberger. But Miles has done so much crazy stuff, I just wrote it off as Les being Les.

I did notice that Hebert didn't start, but I thought that was because maybe he was hurt or something.

I'm glad Bobby Hebert called him out on it.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year with LSU. They seem to be losing a lot of good players as it is.

period. A lot of pro teams wouldn't have been able to. I don't think anything like that happened. That being said, if that was what happened then Miles did exactly what he should have done.

Saban really broke all his tendencies with all the 1st down play-action passes. Not many coaches would have had the guts to use his best player mostly as a decoy during a national title game. Thought that showed a huge amount of respect for LSU's defense and was a brilliant gameplan.

that your kicker made the field goals. And I'm sure he feels a lot better about himself now. The past month and a half must have been pretty bad ... I heard there were even death threats.

You could just tell that something was wrong emotionally with LSU. If I had to guess, it had to be a major rift betweenthe players themselvesor coaches & players. Jefferson ran the option like a scared little kid all night long. Despite the fact that everyone connected with the game (fans, announcers, etc.) was recommending they tryJarrett Lee,Miles refused to put him in. If Saban had stubbornly attempted to run the same 5 offensive plays with no positive result andrefused to change qb's while his starter waslaying a turd, you and your crimson-clad brethren would bewondering WTF happened as well. Sure the Bama defense played lights out, but as I said before, the fire wasn't there (for LSU) and there has to be an explanation for it. We may never know the real story there. Also, even with LSU playing at 100% emotionally, they may have still lost the game anyway. All I'm saying is you didn't see their best effort and something caused that other than the"great Bama defense"--Brent Musberger.

Most of the misses in the 1st game were the long-range kicker, who had been hitting a very low % throughout the season. This kicker did miss 1 FG in the 1st game, but he also missed 2 plus 1 XP in the title game. The difference was in the title game the FGs were much more makeable than in the 1st. Saban should have punted on those long-range FGs in the 1st game.</p>

that "smell" was Jordan Jefferson shitting his pants.<div>
</div><div>Go check out his numbers all-time versus bama... it was the same cat (less the big play) versus a suffocating defense...</div><div>
</div><div>I think it's more likely LSU had a "let down" because they know they "escaped" TTown with the upset and felt cheated bc they knew they couldn't beat Bama again... that's much more likely than Les Miles (who is a millionaire & cocky) taking a payoff, IMO...</div><div>
</div><div>and I'm probably more a conspiracy theorist than most posters here....</div><div>
</div><div>I just believe Bama had the better team this year.</div><div>
</div><div>That being said, Les could have thrown Lee to the PsychoPhants, run Sheppard ragged, and run every trick play in the book, before going down like the bitches they did... Maybe he just wanted to "keep it close".... I dunno...</div>

it is the fact that the bama qb completed them over the top against man coverage. LSU had to respect that which loosened things up just enough to move the ball. Was really the difference in the game as far as bama's offense, in addition to the fact the kicker was kicking from turf indoors. Now the difference on the lsu side of the ball, they just thought they could stick with the same gameplan as the first game and never adjusted from it.

He's bama's KO specialist (who can't kick it in the EZ) and LR kicker that missed 3-4 vs LSU...<div>
</div><div>word was he tried to hang himself after the LSU game... but, when he tried to kick the chair from beneath himself, he missed....</div><div>

terrible game plan or lack thereof, but it is definitely odd that those guys never played. Out of simple respect for what Lee did for the team this year he should have been given at least one series in the second half, especially fourth quarter. All Miles had to do was look back at his bench just once and he would seen they needed a change either in QB or play calling to get his team to at a minimum stop pouting.
