From what I’ve seen and heard, if Burns can cut down on the turnovers, they have the possibility to beat anyone they play. I’ll agree with Lincolnton, they have speed and athletes all over the place. Maybe they can put it together and make a run and see what happens. They shouldn’t have a problem with West Lincoln.

West is going to try and sweep sweep sweep you to death....then sweep it again even if they lose yardage every single play....

They averaged over 400 yards rushing a game and 10 yards per rush when we came into town... they averaged 2,9 yards a rush on 31 attempts against us...they can easily be thrown on too.... 14-18 345 yards a 4 tds

We tried for years but in the past West wouldn’t agree to play us. That was before Ponder took over as the head coach at West. You will not find much better than Darren. He was a damn good Coach at Burns and even better human being. I look forward to finally playing them.

If we are going to struggle with things, this is the time. Use these games to work out the kinks and improve. If Burns puts it together come playoff time they can be a threat to anyone. The JV team has a load of talent along with the middle school team. This team has major potential but the years ahead only get better. Start now…

Big game for both I would think. As far as I know it's the first time Burns and West Lincoln have ever played. Think Burns is probably the favorite Friday. Will go 42-14 Dawgs
A new era begins. Never played West in football 🏈 it’s odd when we are right at each other. Hope the crowd is good- and no rain. I see Burns winning and hard to beat from now on. We gotta cut out the holding crap. We could have easily been 4-1 now. I hope Linc continues to win but we did all we could to help them beat us. I’m still bruised over that one.

I agree but we can’t turn it over 4 times and expect to win. Lincolnton did what good teams do and made us pay for it. We cannot take WL lightly nor can we turn it over. These games have to be used to polish it up. Stuart Cramer is 4-0 and may be 4-1 next week when we travel there after they play Shelby. We have to play well regardless.

Just some trivia, here, I noticed that Burns last game is against Shelby, there, maybe I’m off on this, but it seems like every team over that way really gets fired up for that game (Shelby game)…Guess that’s one of the things what makes Cleveland County football so special.

If the Bulldogs beat them, it might be best to shake their hands and let it go at that…Before retirement, I worked with a lot of Shelby and Burns fans, and liked all of them.

It was about 10-15 years ago, or so, that Burns was at Shelby, and same as this year, it was late in the regular season. Burns won, don’t remember the score, but after the game some of their players and maybe even the coach at that time, went to mid-field, there at Blanton Stadium, and did some kind of victory celebration that must not have sit-well with the Shelby fans.

Some of the Shelby fans I talked with at work got pretty mad about it…The Burns people I spoke with kind of marked it up to youthful exuberance…I know how that goes, but some seemed to be genuinely insulted; So that’s why I suggested just a friendly handshake…I’m certain, everybody over there will take my advice, yeah, right. :)

Postscript: They probably weren’t as insulted as the Cherryville people were when the neighborly Lincolnton people stole their Ironman.

That was the Matt Beam era when Burns used to "drop the bomb" after wins. They did it after every win, not just Shelby. It was only done at midfield at home though. When we were away they'd do it down close to their end zone. I remember that being a big deal back then though as a lot of people didn't like it. The kids/students loved it though

Matt Beam was a great motivator. He generated a lot of hype with the players and students. He came on board at an opportune time when he already had some young talent coming in. He was successful for a good stretch. We beat Shelby 4 years in a row. They hated him and us, and made a big deal out of the bomb fun. At the time, Shelby’s Principal was a Burns grad-(she’s Principal at Burns now). She made a big deal about Burns “not” being allowed to drop the bomb at Shelby, had an announcement made that the Shelby police department forbade them from dropping it, had the stadium lights were turned out on us- which made the whole thing a bigger issue than it need be. It was a joke- especially after everybody having to watching Shelby do their- whole team jump and pile on top each other act, to begin their games, home or away for the last 55 plus years. You can’t make this stuff up. Burns beat Shelby at Shelby the night they named their field after their long time coach Pearlly Allen- they didn’t like that either. And- that 4th victory in a row that Matt’s Bulldogs beat Shelby at Shelby he held up 4 fingers in celebration- and some of the lion faithful accused Matt of shooting the home side the bird. I don’t know if it was true- but some were determined to rid Cleveland county of Matt, and that got the ball rolling.

The problem. Wasn't just about the bomb..
There was ton of people that claimed Beam ran over to Shelby side and gave the finger...
The big up-roar came from that, which it was denied that it happened

That wasn't it either. Burns much like Crest couldn't give a piss what Shelby thinks about anything. Shelby can get bent.

The problem!

Yes- Shelby has always been Shelby and that’s why we love to hate ‘em. Traditionally- they have been privileged, so they think. I’m glad to be a Bulldog- and I support Chargers but the rest of the bunch, nope, I ain’t breaking a dollar bill for.

I was on top of the press box when it all happened and he did not shoot the finger. He held up 4 fingers. It was on film. That’s why no punishment was given. They didn’t like getting beat. Thats all it was.

But Crest gets honey from lots of different beehives. Did the Green's ever move?

You're missing the whole point. I have told you many times, you're just dumb. The post had nothing to do with that, you must be able to breathe on your own to get the gist of what I was saying.

You make my head hurt sometimes. You just do..

You should really consider just dropping out of here. Go stare at your brick over in loserville.

I saw WL in the jamboree and they looked decent against East Rutherford. They had the ball almost the whole two quarters. ER scored on a long pass play and WL didn’t score. WL will try to eat up as much clock as possible. If Burns QB plays well they should win easily based on WL’s results so far. But if he doesn’t it could be close. I think the Burns defense should do well against WL run game.

Just heard this game has been moved up to 6:30.

That’s what I’ve always believed. A few mutts whined loud because they think their yelp matters. Some of them are the worst. They hate getting beat down, especially on their own field and they think it can’t happen to them- it must be somebody else’s fault. And yes- Matt was cocky- but remember the whole county has watched Shelby put on their Batam rooster strut and heard their little beaks chatter on endlessly long enough. We love to beat em and we love to hate em and they can’t stand it. And- it’s everybody else againest them- it’s Shelby with 0 = nobody else.
