Regarding the perception of level of play, keep in mind that changes to HS rules, implemented over the last 6 or 7 years, are designed to make the game safer and therefore, perhaps, look a little less intense. I know that kids are still smashing into each other and some kids are still getting hurt, but the game seems less intense to me compared to 5 or 6 years ago, and that is fine with me.
