Glad to see you guys hugging it out, but not sure which of these teams would "smack" HC. Have these guys played an O-line that averages 245 lbs per man and a RB that is built like a tank? We will never know what would happen if HC played any of the below teams you list Dino, but I would give 10 points to everyone but SHG and Montini and I would still take HC against those two all day long.

Be sure to watch HC play from field level so you hear and feel the punishment that o-line dishes out and hear the sound that a collision with Bobek makes. Devastating is not an understatement I am sure SHG could put 30+points on HC, but I know HC could put 40 on SHG.

Wow. Wish I could have been there for that one. Almost 1,100 yards of offense. How many yards did Bobak gain? HC had 325 as a team

Was watching it online. HC offensive line is pretty damn big and good.

Sean McCormack had to have thrown for at least 300 and 4 TD's.

Boback is a work horse but the credit goes to that o-line. Great game on both sides, insane. Overtime.

South had chance to win in regulation. The difference was HC O-line. Just could not handle them up front.

South!!!

Sounds like a great game and Hornets really hung in. This will auger well for playoff preparation.

I love this HS team! The best 6-3 team I've ever seen. Kids and coaches should be proud. The 3 teams that beat them, don't want to play them again, that's for sure. Now, finish off the season and go win state.

I've said it a number of times, South is loaded with talent and can play with anyone. Hopefully, they learn from this loss (as I think they did from previous 2), close strong next week and make a deep run in playoffs.

Someone had HS QB with 438 yds.

Sean McCormack is the Rodney Dangerfield of Illinois QBs.
65% completion rate, 1981 passing yards, 19 TD passes, 3 rushing TDs. 446 yds and 4tds.....5 for 8 76 yds in final 2 minutes to setup game tying field goal last night.
Still....as Rodney would say...no respect.
Hornets played their hearts out last night.

My initial reaction to your description of HC ground gamae was, "he is exaggerating a bit". Boy oh boy, was I wrong. HC's run game is devastating. " Maulers" is a perfect description of their O-line.

Food for thought, imagine what you get if you merged those 2 teams?

I have been accused, and rightly so at times, of being too enormed with teams just because they give GW a tough game. I was embarrassed for HC last year when coach stopped the game. I underestimated their skills during the first 5 victories as them "beating nobodies."

Then I caught their act up close and personal. HC may not have the D to stand up to Homer Flosswood or Loyola, but with the shorter QB in the backfield, HC has the best offense this side of Homer. Someone is going to have to prove that this isn't the best oline in the state, period. HF has a big dude OT but not 5 guys like HC.

Funny thing is they do it all without a TE or 2nd blocking RB. Four wideouts, Five Oline, a QB and Bobak. And still rush for 300+ yards. Against West at least 90% of their rushing yards came between the tackles. Good ol fashion spread em out and run my 5 guys at your 6-8 guys in the box and try to stop us. And from field level their size is even more impressive.

As for defensive side of ball, its not that they are all that bad. But rather HC ran into aHS offense that i think finally unleased the full potential of their passing game. All 4 of HS starting receivers can hurt you (with variety of size, speed, hands), and last night all 4 hurt HC. Pair that with a very good QB who can make all the throws, and you have a passing attack that can be very hard to contain. Clearly, HC couldn't do it last night.

Right well I am a cautious believer in HS. Love their heart and ability. I guess I worry they could let their guard down in the early rounds.

If they play every game like the opponent was HC or GW, they will make a deep run in 6A. Let's hope they get a favorable, but not too favorable draw.

Who was at the game last night? I watched it online and the crowd sounded like it was rocking. How was the atmosphere? Someone said it was the greatest high school football they have seen.

Kid can absolutely sling the ball. Reminds of a Jon Buetjer at Wheaton Warrenville South. Tall, arm, smart and puts the ball on the money. Some of those throws last night I was left saying "wow".

They can't take Morton lightly, Morton is a tough football team. They almost beat OPRF and lost a lot of close games, they've won 2 in a row and are feeling good about themselves. They have to come out, take care of business and get the W.

First and foremost, HS will be concerned with Morton in week 9. With playoff clincher on the line, I doubt they will take game litely or let guard down.

As for playoff, South will likely draw a high seed in southern bracket (I.e. Lemont, SHG, LWN, etc.) In the 1st round. Someone who they will be in no position to take lightly. So again, I doubt this will be an issue.

I was at the game on Friday, crown was good not great, not exactly a packed house due to the cold weather. Game was great, but not one of the greatest of all time, defenses were lack luster. It is hard to believe that Central has such an unreal o-line and they will not rotate any of those ids in on the defensive line. HC created no pressure all game long, HS had all day to throw, the run/pass option killed HC defense all night.

That is the $64k question right there. True HC has 95 guys on their sideline so I am sure coaches feel compelled to play kids of major program contributors, but how do you not run out the big dudes when the game is on the line?

In addition to no pressure, HC has some issues in defensive backfield. Other than #27, they had problems covering people. HS receivers wide open all night. If they run into a team with descent passing game, could spell trouble in playoffs.

When Bobak from HC kept breaking through up the middle against GW, I was wondering if we might see Brodner playing defense at SS or IL? I read he was working out at LB before the Vanderbilt scholarship offer. Does he still take any reps on defense in practice?

Although I like the GW defense and it has performed better as the season has progressed, It has not given me the same confidence as previous years and points allowed by starters has been up this year. I think GE fans were spoiled having Lanning and Carlson as three year starters at safety in previous years.

It is my understanding that Brodner was working out on Defense before the Vande commit.. Whether they will make a switch at this point? I doubt it. I think once Hetlett has a plan, he tends to stick to it. Then again, Kaufman played the backfield and ran for a td, so anything can happen. I think there was also someone on defense that came in on offense, but I can't remember maybe Gagliano??? The defense seems to start a little slow, but I think they are getting better. They had it together for OPRF. The PW game is hard to measure.

The HC game was a bit of an aberration. Starting safety hurt the week before and Hetlett trying to find his guy for center field. You're right, Carlson was a luxury that delivered a state title and finding a guy that can lock down on both the run and pass is rare. Safety that played last two games did a great job but got banged up and may need a couple of weeks, but if the 7A draw leads to week 1 DGN, he should get 2 full weeks of rest.

The bigger question of Brods playing D is one that will be answered in Week 2 or 3 of the playoffs. Right now, LB is their strongest position. One intriguing idea may be having Brods play safety. I can't imagine having that dude patrolling center field. Wait...maybe I can imagine it. No question he can deliver blows and he is as fast as Carlson was/is (at Yale).

Not sure how many WRs would want to see that Mack truck bearing down on them.

Delicious just thinking about it.

I attended all of the GW games and all of the HC games this year. Brodner as a DB or safety would be too much for any team this year. They would probably only need him in a tight game. Regarding HC, if I were them, I would never pass the ball again this season. The added bonus there would be that you would keep the opposing defense off the field thereby not exposing HC's defense. And one note that most people wouldn't know is that HC has a sophomore running back on varsity who is arguably as good or possibly better than Bobak. They haven't unleashed him but for a few carries this season (what a waste of talent)- but when he has gotten the ball, he has shown he is one of the best running backs in the state- acceleration is super impressive and he is very difficult to take down. would be interesting to know what their plan is for him.

LOL! I was praying that HC would keep passing the ball against South. As the game went on, the HC coaches figured it out. Run the ball every time. And it worked to perfection.

Call me crazy but the more I think about, the more I think Hetlett unleashes the Bull in center field sometime in weeks 12-14

Couldn't agree more. As i said on the board after the game, I would have run Bobak 50 times. They kept throwing the ball into gale force winds and did themselves no favors.

A couple of things regarding GW. It looked like a couple of players were hurt on Saturday, but they are at positions that have some depth so all is well. I have been very happy about some big improvements in the kicking game, which has been a concern of mine since week 1. Esposito can boom the ball so that area seems locked down now. I think the defense is in great shape, given that we are in week 9 and there are only a handful of injuries. Compared to previous seasons, they lack "the guy" like Carlson or Tommy Schutt (sp?), but overall they are just as fast and just as hard hitting. A complete and very good group. And finally, as they get into week 12 and 13, expect a few surprises from Hetlett. He mixed things up last week with a few interesting experiments, and I'd be surprised if he doesn't try a few more this Friday night.
